Clear Lights...Finally!
I know lots of ya'll probably already had this done. Just had to share! I waited 4 months for a deal, these were $550.00. Anyone want to buy my old amber ones? :D

Congrats
You got a good deal on the lights. The clear lights seem to blend better with the body and avoid the more "classic" or dated look, if you will. My '02 in Arctic Silver looks smoother without the obvious amber and could be tomorrows car. Some have removed the amber internal lens in order to achieve total de-ambering but I can live with it on my car. If you haven't you should do the side markers and get the silver bulb that blinks amber for a total clean look up front. The lack of amber will now produce at least 10 more HP and at least 5 ft lb of torque leaving your amber laden bretherin in your black break dust. Enjoy and party on !!
AKL  |
HOT DENG! Finally, you got your clear lights...I remember last month, some of the members here could almost feel your pain waiting for the right deal that comes to you :D :D :D
that, my friend is a really good deal! AKL is right, if you want to fully deamberfied the car, it will produce and additional 10hp on a flywheel test  :p If you want silver bulb, I could send you the link or ask DJ how he painted his light bulb :) |
Calvin's 1997 has melted lenses from high watt bulbs. 2 months ago I met the local lady that bought Calvins car and she wanted to replace the melted amber headlights with good amber headlights. But when I bumped into the lady last week at the Parts Heaven swap meet I think she said she had already found some amber lights from a Boxster owner in Redwood City.

Man you guys are great! I'm off to radioshack to get a soldering iron tonight! Thanks!
|
hey, conrad...call me if you're going to do it so i could watch and probably do the same thing on mine after...coo!

Great
I was reading your posts and it didn't seem like too much of a deal until I saw the differnece in the look. It looks great, the extra 10 HP plus the 20 extra HP after a wash and wax job should make these babies really rock!
|
I should get yet ANOTHER 3HP after my amberectomy! Haha!!! :D I crack myself up.
@Unklekraker: I will call you very very soon. I am looking to rid myself of all amber once and for all. Quote:

So you have to pay $600 for a whole new set of lights to remove the orange? Can't you just buy clear pieces to replace the orange part? Nobody has done this? It has to be possible.
|
The plastic headlight cover is a single piece. The upper part of the cover is clear plastic and the lower part of the cover is amber plastic. That is why you cannot just replace the amber portion of the headlight cover.

Is there a kit or part you can lay over it to hide it such as a tint kit or one of these headlight kits that change the look of the headlight? What if you bought something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/96-04-PORSCHE-BOXSTER-SMOKED-HEADLIGHT-TINT-COVER_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38661QQihZ012QQit emZ220121524978QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW , you could even cut it just to cover up the bottom part of the light and not block the acutal lights themselves if you wanted |
Can't remove the amber, but people do tint over the amber.
|
anybody have a pic of somebody who tinted over the amber?

Well I looked at the inside of my new headlights and decided that things were waaay too close together in there for my unsteady hands. I will just live with the amber inside for now. It is way too risky like you say 986spyder. Thanks. Isn't there an easier way to do this without a soldering iron? |
