Top Stopped Functioning

Last week I closed my top Iand heard what sounded like popping sounds over my left shoulder. That didn't sound right so I tried to lower and raise the top (stupid) but it did with no issues.

Today I went to drive the car and noticed the top light was on. When I got home I tried to lower the top ( I know, again stupid ) and it quit half way down. Now nothing.

I know this has to be bad....ideas?

1. Can I manually rasie it to get to a shop?

2. There also seemed to be a noise, like a blower or fan running today for a few minutes, the stop. It was on the right side of the motor. Since I've park the car it has come on about twice in the last 40 minutes. It goes off in about four seconds...related?

Anyone?

The clamshell is at a forty five degree angle and the front of the top is stopped about at the roll bars. When I press the button I get a brief sound (power I'd guess) but nothing from the top.

Due to where the top stopped I don't see the cables the owners manual shows.

SC986,

Sorry to hear about your top issues. Unfortunately I don't have any practical advice for you. I'm sure someone will chime in soon with help.

In the mean time, there is a convertible top issues forum section over on Renntech as well as a ton in the archives here. I will look around to see if I can find anything helpful.

to close manually, disconnect, by prying red plastic fittings and fittings for lid. They pry off with some resistance. You will need drive cables. If it is an earlier boxster, you will need new transmissions and cables (upgrade) and spaced bushings. Probably cost over $1,000.00. I have replaced them.

Thanks Peter! Mine is an '02, so does it sound as though it is just the cables?

I have pried off the red cables for the top and lowered it. The cables for the clamshell will not come loose so I can close it.

I don't know if the arms are under more pressure being more open than usual but they will not come loose????
