Boxster Airbags

As I recall, current boxsters have six airbags: 2 fronts, 2 sides, 2 head. I don't know when they made a switch from 4 to 6, but I recall in 2003 they had 4 airbags (2 front, 2 side).

The 2003 boxsters side airbags looked as if they not only provide supplemental protection for the chest/shoulder area but they also cover high above the seat for head protection.

I own a 2001 boxster but I don't have the data on their side airbags. Do 2001 boxster side airbags extend coverage up to the head region as the side airbags on 2003 models do?

thanks!

I thought all 986 side air bags were like this.

Not to hijack this thread, but I wonder if I were to buy new door panels for my 97 and the side airbags, could they be installed to work, or is there more electronics required?

LIkely need a controller to make this all work.

Good question for Porsche Doc or MN Jim.
