I don't understand why the hell you'd drive a convertible with the top down and the windows up. I can just here the wife as I'd assume that is in the passenger seat, "put the windows up, you're messing up my hair"...yeah well you should have known that would happen when you got in a car with no roof.

I ALWAYS drive on the interstate with the windows up. It cuts down on the noise tremendously. I find this to be a much better alternative to pulling over before I hit the interstate, putting the top up and then again pulling over after I pull off of the interstate and putting the top down again.

Because I want fresh air and open skies (even if it's not sunny) a breeze, smells from the outside world, but not a windstorm and a ton of crap and debris coming in, and noise levels that make conversation impossible?

Yeah, when I'm on the freeway, I always drive with the top down and windows up. I do agree that when you're driving in town at very slow speeds, however, that there's no need to drive with the windows up and top down....I think it just looks weird.
