Anyone know where I can get "cams"

I am looking to upgrade my cams and can not find a place that carries them for a 1997 boxster. If anyone has places or links for this part please let me know.

Don't think I've heard of any aftermarket cams for any of these engines.

You sure you want to do something like that? What other mods have you done?

clb0099 05-26-2007 09:30 PM

it was actually suggested by mnboxster and I have nothing else done to my boxster to the engine but I once had a 1998 jetta and did cams and it made a big difference.

Never seen aftermarket performance cams for the Box.

With as much of a PITA as it would be to change the cams in a Boxster engine... it's probably not worth the return on investment.

An engine swap would be a better idea.

well i actually found some place that sells performance cams for the 1997 porsche boxster http://www.deficarsport.com/porsche-camshaft.htm

there several types for the boxster maybe someone with techincal knowledge could tell me which one to buy

I dont know about quantity but it seems like you need an exhaust and inlet, meaning like 2 grand for cams. Thats not including installation. Im pretty sure the ONLY cost effective reason to buy cams would be you already had an open engine or you did it all yourself. Go with a 3.4 swap... much easier and more bang for the buck (albeit more costly)

CLB, you're really asking for advice on something that likely NONE of us have ever done, nor heard of being done on an engine in a Boxster. IMHO, two grand for the parts, plus likely at least one grand for the labor of pulling the engine... and you'll likely only get marginal gains.

If you want more power, you might look into a supercharger kit. Seriously. You'll get more bang for your buck, and there are supercharger kits that you can install yourself in a day.

got any places i can find a supercharger that you said i can install.

SC it. But if you have to have a set of cams call Evan @ FVD in Florida ( http://www.fvd.de/ ). They sell Schrick cams. I originally wanted to do this in addition to the Super Charger but Stephen Kasper at Imagine Auto said it was a bad idea. Best of luck to whatever you do.

Gary in BR 05-30-2007 02:48 PM

The price for the supercharger is $3250 and will be of off the car around the end of June.
