Hose life
 

I am contemplating changing all my hoses out of my (02) 50k boxster, as a "preventive measure", before a road trip (Alaska) this summer. My dealer says I'm nuts, the hoses do not replacing, unless of course they show some evidence, that would warrant it. Any of you folks have any thoughts on this?

Replacing anything prematurely (before it possibly fails) cannot hurt anything but your wallet.

Rubber keeps on "curing" from the moment it's made until it falls to powder. That's why the rubber in tires, hoses and belts eventually gets hard and brittle. Elevated temperature, such as experienced by radiator hoses, plays a part in accelerating the deterioration of rubber, so if you replace anything, it should be those pieces.

I have a January 1997. No hoses have been replaced.

I think you can wait a while. If your mechanic has inspected the hoses and thinks that it is unnecessary at this time, I think you can trust him.

You'll be fine,there is no reason to change out the hoses. If you are really worried have a P-car mechanic look over it before your trip.

might want to change out your whole suspension and get an engine upgrade while youre at it, why stop with the hoses? LOL

Instead, I'd suggest changing all the hoses to steel braided lines, then you can wait 2 years before the next overhaul instead of one!

I think if you feel up to it, go for it. It certainly won't hurt, and you might be surprised what you see. All of us Boxster owners see various drips and drops now and again in our garage floors, so here's a chance to find out where they might be originating.
