Pull a GPS cable...?
 

Ever since I mounted my TomTom GPS below the dash inside the storage department thingee (see pic), I notice that the GPS now takes longer to hook up to the satellites. So I just bought an external antenna that I'd like to mount at the base of the windscreen, on top of the dash (where the alarm receiver is situated), and then pull the cable behind the dash into the GPS unit. I wonder if anyone has done this, and/or know if there's an easy way to pull a cable this way, or if it's even possible..?

It would not be too hard to pull the cable up under the dash near the alarm, but you will probably have to drill a hole in the dash. You best bet would be to run it through the center console and place it up behind the driver/passenger area. Also, you should look into making a frame that fits around the GPS.

I installed an in-dash GPS system. I put the antenna right where you want to. If your cable is long enough you can route it under the passenger dash, then have it come out by the door, up the side, around the a-frame, then down into the crack between the windshield and the dash.

is that how you have it sitting, or do you have a face plate of some sort to make it look a little better than the gaping hole in there?

Okay, so today I finally got this external antenna (from China of all places) and mounted it on top of the dash at the base of the windshield, and pulled it the way Chills suggested, (thank you). But silly me, I first plugged it into the audio jack, and hence didn't get any better reception, (no mention in the manual of the GPS where to plug this thing). Anyways, now, when I finally found the right hole for it, I can see improved signal strength right away.
