how much is an acceptable mark up for service parts?

So I got a very good quote for routine service from a local shop. While looking at the parts list I noticed they were charging over $100 for spark plugs. All other parts were within $10 of the Pap Parts.com prices. I pointed out to them via email that the plugs are available for under $10 each and provided the link.
Which brings me to my general question, I understand shops make some money on a marginal mark up but what is too much?

it depends, if they markup the price more than 10%, i consider that on the vurge of being excessive.

Goto Napa and order 6 of the Bosch Copper Sparkplug 7402... Its basically the same plug that the dealer uses. They are about $4 each and are identical to the porsche dealership sparkplugs for the boxster.

Edit: oh wait, you have a 2000 S, these are for 1997 non-S, not sure they will work in your boxster unless S and nonS share the same sparkplugs.

yeah Pap Parts.com has the Bosch 3.2 FR7 plugs for $5 each.
$30 vs. $116 seems like a big difference to me...
Think they want $80 for 9 quarts of synth oil (Elf 5-40) too.

its a small shop and I don't want to be a ball buster.

I think they mark stuff up like that to make a huge profit and keep the difference. That's where allot of companies make money.

Yeah sounds like they are taking a vantage of you with there mark up. I'd buy the plugs and pay there labor for them to install the plugs OR goto another shop for the install, that shop may mess something up so you can return for more repairs after you went behind there backs and bought your own plugs.
