Carpet Faded . Any Suggestions ??

Hello All,

I guess that faded carpet is the price paid for leaving the top down on the sunny days. My 99 Boxster must have enjoyed alot of sun prior to my ownership. The carpet located between the seats is the only problem area with obvious fade . I am considering replacement . If so , where could I get that prortion of carpet ?

I have no knowledge of this type of repair / replacement. Is dye from some type of restoration shop an option .

Thanks, and Enjoy the nice weather !!!!

carpet dye

For many years I ran a '70 Datsun 240Z with black interior, and the sunlight coming through the back window would fade the carpet in short order. I used to use Rit Dye mixing it with water (with a bit of vinegar) and using a sponge to apply. It took a sunny day or two to dry.

I believe I saw a spray at the AutoZone once. Then there's also Marhyde? which allot of folks were using on faded cloth seats in convertibles. Maybe they make a product for carpetting.

I have tried carpet dye and found it to be lacking.

Do it right and buy yourself a new set of carpets for the car through Sunset (cheaper there) and replace it one Saturday. All that is required is to remove the seats, which are four bolts each plus a plug, and the center console, which is just a lot of screws.

Your car is now 8 years old. If you plan to keep it for more than three years, it's time to start restoring it to its former glory. I have replaced my seats already, and will do my door panels and dash in time as I find good deals on black leather doors that will work on my model year.
