987 (not 986) Ipod Integration
Are there any good products available YET to connect the Ipod to the stereo in the 987? I did a search but all the info is for the radio in the 986.

:) Bump. :)

My dealership installed an Ipod connection when I bought it (2007). Not sure if they can do an install on any other year. I do have nav and I think you need that, but not sure. The interface is a little clunky though.

Mine is a 2006 with no nav.

You can go the Dension route (which uses the CD changer connection), although the installs I've read of so far have been on PCM vehicles (PCM not required). Don't know what availability you'll have in Colombia. If you go this route let me know and I'll point you toward some threads on other boards covering this as your installer will need some additional info.
I've also read of FM modulators directly linked to your antenna (windshield) instead of over the air. |
Is this the Dension model I would need?
This might be a dumb question, but I have never removed the radio, so do all the radios have the CD changer connection? I do not have the CD changer as an option. Availability in Colombia I am sure will be zero but I can always get people to bring stuff down to me when they travel from the U.S. Quote:

Ipod
I have been searching also and have found nothing. My dealership said there is no interconnet for our standard stereo systems. I've tried the FM modulator Itrip but it is useless in the city.

That doesn't look like the Dension 500 in the eBay auction. You may want to contact Eric @ Bumperplugs, who is a fairly prominent sponsor on some other boards. His outfit sells the proper unit for $479.
http://www.bumperplugs.com/DensionStandard.html Someone also posted recently about the HK unit in a 986 that would also work on a 987 and seems fairly promising, but is not yet widely available. http://986forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11000&highlight=kardon I've also contemplated the Pioneer AVIC-D3 in a 987, which Chills just installed on his 986. I've seen this installed on a 987 and with the proper plate looks very slick/OEM. It's fairly inexpensive for in-dash NAV and should allow for iPod integration. Even if it doesn't, at least it's CD-RW capable. This is the sticking point for me. I wouldn't care about iPod integration if the CD-24 just played discs in data format. My playlists aren't that sacred to me. |
