Help! Hood keeps unlatching!
My 01' Boxster's hood keeps unlocking all by itself while I'm driving down the road! I have had this car about...2 weeks and we here in the San Francisco Bay just had a freak down-pour of monsoon like rain. Could this have caused a short of some kind? I have the electronic hood/trunk latch release system.
Has anyone else had this problem? How can I disable this until I can get it to an indy? :( |
Definitely sounds like a short somewhere. I'd think in the latch switch to the left of your seat. You said there's lots of rain... has it behaved this way BEFORE there was a lot of rain? Could be water getting where it shouldn't!

not sure man, was the water realy high?
btw, got any pics of your blacked out ride? |
see if there is a fuse for the hood, remove it and see if it continues.

I have had this happen to me before too. Found out that it was because some sand/dirt had lodged into the electronic switch. You can use a vacuum cleaner to dislodge the sand from the switch, and the problem should go away. Good luck.

Well it was sunny today and everything dried out from in and around my car, consequently the problem seemed to go away. I really think some water got into the switch at the driver's side and made it do funny things. I'll see if it happens again next rain storm.
Here's a shot of the tail-lights, smoked out. I'm waiting for my aluminum door sills and liscence plate holder's and smoked side markers. The 3rd brake light is still back ordered! http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ox014Small.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ox007Small.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ByTheBeach.jpg |
