Easter Weekend

Hope you all had a better weekend than mine :(

Friday I am supposed to pick up the Benz from the repair shop. Transmission is fixed ( $1100 ! ) - but the car is not ready. Apparently, I have a power steering leak and the pump needs to be replaced. Cost - $350 ! There goes $1450 and the Performance driving school this weekend down the drain

Saturday take my girl out for a nice dinner then to the casino we go. Got my a$$ kicked on the craps table !

Sunday meet my Dad at a cousin's house for Easter. I get there first and park in the street ( residential neighborhood in the Chicago suburbs ) - My dad arrives about a 1/2 hour later. After some appetizers he asks me to go get the camera out of his car ( he has a brand new Lincoln Navigator ). When I go outside I notice he is parked behind me. As I get closer it turns out that MY FATHER HIT MY CAR ! - Sure enough his front bumper is mashed into the rear of my Boxster. After the initial shock wears off I get in his car, back it up, and inspect the damage. It's scratched up pretty bad from his license plate, and of course no damage to his car. I go back inside and for the first time in my life yell at my dad ! This is a nice residential neighborhood with abundant parking, why in the world he parked right behind me and felt the need to pull so close I'll never know...

Anyway, thanks for listening to ( or reading me ) vent. Hope you all had a better weekend than mine...

geez man.
similar thing happened to me in my own driveway, my mom was parked in front of me, and she walks by my car and says wow your car is shiny, gets in her car and backs right into mine. smashed the whole bumper and a headlight...and of course there was no damage to her car
but it was just weird that she commented on my car 15 seconds before that

Nick, a great paint shop is Ultimate Paint Shop in Lake Bluff. They do all the P-cars up on the north shore. Owner is Joe Young. Sorry about your mishap.

I lost my dad 20 years ago. I wish he was here to run into my car. Give you dad a hug and tell him it will be Ok. Its only a car.

unklekraker 04-11-2007 07:49 AM

i don't think nick meant it in a bad way..i think he was just venting out and for sure that before they went home that night, they give each other a hug :)

my easter? I played as a Roman Soldier who put the nail on the cross in our church play and the only thing thats bad is..i look like Shrek on the uniform...hahahahahaha! (my 8 year old son said that :D )

bnorman,

My dad had back to back heart attacks Christmas day 1995 so I realize how lucky I am that he is still around. I called him that night, talked about the Sopranos, and told him I loved him. I never take for granted any day I spend with him. You are 100% correct, all in all it IS just a car :)

Nick, sorry to hear bud, but life is only as good as one perceives it.
You didn't get hit by a bus. You didn't have a heart attack. A piano didn't land on your head. You weren't diagnosed with bone cancer. You weren't born in Somalia. You catch my drift... What is it that makes us expect to just cruise through 8-9 decades of life blissfully and trouble-free?

Coming from someone dealing with randomness for a living, people keep underestimating the randomness of the world around them, even the randomness inherent to our own selves. It's so human to think that we're in control. Millions of muscles, cells, molecules, atoms, being at the right time and the right place so that we wake up every morning expecting things to be the way we want them to be. If we all lowered our expectations to better reflect reality, perhaps we wouldn't be so bugged when crap happens to us. And crap always happens, but we have the choice on how much we allow it to affect us. Just IMO.
Z.

That is terrible about your cars. Both of them!! Easter weekend in Northern Ohio. It started as I was on my way back from Cincinnati on Friday afternoon and ended up being about 2 feet of snow being dropped between Saturday and Sunday. The picture of our new Audi (can you tell?) was taken at 9AM. It continued to snow nonstop for another 6 hours. Really getting sick of this snow stuff....Especially in APRIL

I'll second the Ultimate Paint Shop... they did work on my Audi side skirts several years ago and they still look new!

What makes this so funny to me is I imagine you hunched over in front of the monitor, mouse in your right hand, cracker in the left... and you're still wearing your Roman Soldier costume.

Typical, right Nick! Like the time a few weeks ago, I had my car detailed, they locked the keys in it and now I found out that they burnt my deck lid with the buffer and knocked the tip of the B off and tried to glue it back and touch up the lid. Luckily I am in the body business and next week I am having the deck lid repaired as well as the front bumper painted.... free of course.

When I was single, I remember going to Atlantic City and walking out some nights saying to myself " I just lost a 911 payment... what the hell am i doing?". All that it takes is one nice win to keep you coming back!

The bumper is no big deal to fix! It may be a good time to have the bumperettes painted. I did mine last week and they look awesome.

Good luck!

Tell me about it, i dont understand why sometimes people park SOOOO close to a really really nice car when there is ALOT of parking all around. I think its a bad habit of some people to park extremely close to others.... Who knows, maybe he thought he was doing you a favor incase someone wanted to rob your car, they wouldnt be able to get outta the parking spot. I woulda yelled to so dont feel bad for your feelings and reactions. Some weeks are just really bad.

Try to buff out as much as you can to avoid repainting it.

Grizzly 04-11-2007 05:03 PM

Nick,

While I feel your pain, I have to agree with Bnorman. I'd help my Dad beat all my cars to death with a sledgehammer and drive through the middle of my house with an earthmover, if I could just have him back for five minutes.

unklekraker 04-11-2007 05:54 PM

Gosh..I wasn't going to comment about the story of me and my dad but I can;t help it but share it with you guys...The outcome of this life changing event into my life was..I treat everyday like that's the last time Im going to see my wife, my 3 kids , friends and everyone I met during my lifetime...

I haven't spoke to or seen my dad for the past 12 years.I hated him coz' how he left me to my grandma and my mom with the rest of my bro's and sister. I didn't even let him see my kids..but as I grow older, I realize that in order for me to move on is to forgive my dad and ask for forgiveness..to make the long story short, I make amends to him, start talking on the phone, let my kids talk to him, introduce my dad as their grandpa. so we planned a reunion..after 12 long years..finally, I will get to see my DAD! everyones excited..he prepared the house and the room for us...4 days before the whole family will get to see my dad, i got a phone call from my sister, she said that dad got a heart attack, in the hospital but he's okay now and will be checking out in 2 days...SO i decided to go home ahead of my family...a day before I will get to finally see my dad, to finally hug him, to feel what a hug from a dad feels like...my DAD past away at the doorstep of the hospital.....

TO this day, it's been 7 years, I could still hear my dad saying I LOVE YOU, Son! that was the last word that I heard from him when we hang up the phone....

Our Boxster is just a car but, it's a way of me spending quality time with my daughter, my son and my wife!
