Wrong emblem?

I went to debadge my Boxster last week and the stupid glue had been on so long trying to remove 100% of the residue was impossible(even with Goo Gone). So I ordered a new badge from Sunset, $18,list is $23.36. I installed it and noticed something was different about it right after I installed it.....the new one I was sent had a matte finish to it,my original one has a glossy black finish. I told Phil @ Sunset that it was the rear trunk badge for a 99' and I thought he would order the right one. Does the part #986.559.237.00.70C(part # on the invoice) match up w/ a 99' emblem or was I sent the wrong part?

mine is mate as well....old one is shiny. btw, same part number as yours.
heres what mine looks like. at least they can spell boxster, be glad for that :)
i actually like it this way better

o.k. good to know. The old glossy one that had broken right were the 'B' begins is currently hanging as a decoration from my rear view mirror. Were you able to match up your new 'Boxster' emblem where old one was 100%? I swear I matched everything up perfectly except for a tiny part in the 't',no one notices but me,but it annoys the **************** out of me cause I know there is a tiny outline from the old 't' was.

i matched mine up perfectly.
after 10 years of sun beating on the paint around the emblem, when i took the old one off, it was as if someone wrote boxster with dark green how badly the paint is faded.
so the letters sit at the exact same spot.

btw, bottom of my B was broken when i got the car...seems to be the case on any broken boxster emblem

Mine is cracked on the B as well

Hi,

The Part Number matches up correctly. Your old Badge was glossy because it was waxed and/or buffed over the years. They're only sold in Matte and Metallic finish.

If you like the glossy, go over your new one (carefully) with some wax and a Buffer - it'll gloss up in no time...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

+1 on the B, but mines gone now so no worries.

For those of you looking to "re-badge" the Boxster and have excess money needing to be spent ($450.00 +)

forget about the emblems, where did they get that font?
ive been looking for that cursive font forever!

Hey djomlas, perhaps it's just the photo angle, but your emblem looks much thicker (higher). It that OEM?

Perfectlap 04-11-2007 08:27 AM

I have a Chrome one if anyone is interested (used so you'll have to get some silicone). PM me.

my "B" was broken also when i bought the car. how did u guys break that emblem? i just can't imagine what everyone did to break the piece of plastic stuck to the trunk... anyhow, this was a good excuse to change the emblem to '986' as soon as i got the car. hehe.

It got caught on my wash mitt and snapped right off. When my B broke I put on the silver one from the S. Silver contrasted better with my dark green.

@ Porschekid,

Do you have an enlarged version of that pic? It would make for a neat wallpaper.

Yeah, I have one at home it is a pretty good image... unfortunately I don't host a webpage anymore and don't know where I can upload that large of an image. I could probably email it to you if I remember when i'm at home.

I want to replace mine with a 986 badge, but I'm sure the Boxster badge will have an outline on my car. Is there any way to get rid of the outline (the paint fade, not the glue)?

Some wax or paint restore product might help but I doubt anything short of a respray will clear it up completely.
