Has anyone used a Porsche Stencil?
Hi,
I am going to paint my Calipers using the G2 Caliper Paint Kit (PM me for best price source w/ Free S/H).
Has anyone used a Stencil rather than the Decals available from any number of sources? I'm specifically referring to - http://eagleday.stores.yahoo.net/carinterior.html .
If so, how were your results? Do you recommend using this? What Paint did you use? Brush or Spray (Lettering Only).
Finally, these Stencils are available in several sizes. Can someone with an 'S' Model check the lettering on their Caliper and give me the proper dimensions? These Stencils are available in (Length x Height) 52mm x 5mm; 78mm x 6mm; 85mm x 7mm. I would want to buy the one which matches the 'S' Caliper Lettering. TIA...

out of curiosity, why wouldn't you just use the decals? they work really well, come in various sizes, colors, and wording, are very cheap, and last forever. in fact, the decals on my car have proven more durable than the caliper paint; the paint has stained slightly while the decals have not. they're also a lot easier to put on. just a thought.

yeah man, all you need is a chip in the paint right where one of the letters is, and then what?
and the decals that are on the market now will probably last way after you sell the car....they hold up better than paint itself.
but if you do go that other route, sure do post up some pics, we would all like to see it

Hi,
I'm not totally averse to using Decals, but I've seen many reports of them shrinking and/or miscoloring. And, Porsche (Brembo) stencils the Logos in paint, not Decals.
So, where is a good source for the Decals you guys are endorsing?
But, my question about Logo size remains - Stencils or Decals, I still need to know what size to order...

that's where i got mine. i've had them on the car for around two years with no discoloration, fading or shrinking. i also track my car, so my calipers get VERY hot quite frequently. frankly, the decals hold up a lot better than the paint does. BTW, they're not a single piece decal with colored words & clear backing. each letter is an individual decal. they're pre-aligned on transfer tape. their website tells you the 'factory' lettering size.

I have the xenonmods decals on my repainted calipers and I like them. The quality is very good.
The only downside is it's difficult or impossible to clear coat over them. That is the only reason I would consider the stencils - so you can put a bunch of clear coats over the lettering.

Ya, xenonmods is good. Mine look great with G2 and no clear over the decals.

i dont think theres a need to clearcoat the alipers when painted anyways.
all you are left with after some hard braking is some clearcoat pitting...
happend to my friend so i never put any on any of my cars (or him on his for that matter), the paint already is very glossy

If the clearcoat is applied properly it increases the durability of the paint significantly and will not blister or pit. Usually people have problems because they wait too long to apply the clear (it should be applied shortly after the last color coat) or they apply the first coats too thick.
You CANNOT clear coat over the xenonmods decals - they don't accept paint.
