convertible top indicator light
I bought a '98 Boxster about a month ago and got some great info. on this sight about a question I had concerning what position the convertible top latch should be in when the top is lowered. So, I figured I'd give my next question a shot even though I'm thinking I can guess at what the answer is going to be.
My top down indicator light is constantly on. The convertible top seems to be perfectly secured and latched and I had no problems with the top on a recent 2.5 hour trip on the highway. I'm assuming there is simply something wrong with the indicator light because the top seems perfectly fine. I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars to have someone look at the light and tell me they can't figure out the problem, so I figured I'd post the issue here and see if anyone had any suggestions I could try on my own. |
If the light stays on, it usually means the top did not finish a down cycle or up cycle.
If the top is up, go ahead and put it completely down. Hold the switch until it stops on it's own. If you let it go before it stops, the indicator will stay on. Then put the top up, again, holding the button until it stops completely on it's own. Then latch it shut. The light should go out. |
Heed the advice
TS, this happend to me too. You would believe the top was up but the motor seems to run on for a few seconds before the light goes out. Same thing going up. Just keep the button held until the light goes out. Fray knows of what he speaks.

^^ +1 It took me a few tries to realize that it really hadn't closed all the way, even when I thought it had.

^^^ Cool sig, to bad it isnt a Boxster

Yeaah, you need to hold the button for about 3 seconds even after the top is fully opened or closed. I think the motor needs a few seconds to settle and then the light will go off. You should be fine.

FYI, you have to hold the button down afew more seconds longer after the top has reached the windshield because you must allow the clamshell to close...which is the last step in the convertible top raising and lowering process.
