The New Wheels / Tires Are On (Finally)

Check out my Cadillac / Muscle Car / Bling-Bling wheels. I know most members are opposed to chrome wheels, but I really like these. Take a look. Your opinions are welcome.

The Specs...
Carrera S - 18x8, 50mm & 18x10, 47mm
BFG G-Force Sport - 245/40/18 & 275/35/18

Lessons Learned...
1. Stay away from Dayton.
2. The rear rims barely fits. Had to pin the E Brake cable out of the way. Had to return to the tire store to replace the rim lip balancing wts with the glue on kind inside the wheel. The rim wt was grazing the strut - that's how little room to spare there is.
3. Not sure about the 245/40 front. Tire guy talked me into it because of the 8" rim. I need to get it on level ground but the front looks high to me and the frt sidewall looks taller than the rear. Think I would go 235/40 next time.
4. Love the center caps. It was a pain in the arse dealing with Dayton and Ralph Boothe came through for me, but these caps were insanely expensive. Know what? At this point I don't care. I really like the looks of them on the wheels.

Caveat...
My car isn't as clean as I would like (it rains every 3 days) and I haven't dressed the tires. The pics are not DJ quality but I wanted to get some posted. Will get my car cleaned up and then update my sig blk.

Enjoy!

blkboxster 04-03-2007 06:18 PM

um, the rims on your sig are hot,but im sorry the chrome rims are :barf: :barf:

blkboxster 04-03-2007 06:21 PM

You know what, the more i see the pic the more i begin to like it :D

bmussatti 04-03-2007 06:23 PM

Are those center caps black?

dcporsche99 04-03-2007 06:30 PM

Not a fan of chrome, but the wheels are very nice!

Yes, but not the whole cap. There is a 3/8" polished edge. Ralph called the black section an inlay. He said it is a modern day interpretation of a 356 cap. My Porshe knowledge doesn't go that far back, so I will take his word on it.

djomlas 04-03-2007 07:15 PM

i LOVE those wheels, but definitely not chrome.
but then again i am so anti chrome anything pretty much

those wouldl ook sick as hell if they were black

HIFI 04-03-2007 07:33 PM

I like the fact that they are different... everyone on here is trying to make their car stand out from the rest, you have truly done so. I say if you like them, don't look for anyone else's approval; congrats and enjoy!

chaudanova 04-03-2007 07:34 PM

I'd have to agree here, wheels are nice, but chromies....

pbanders 04-03-2007 07:48 PM

Very nice - congrats!

Rodger 04-04-2007 12:14 AM

Looks nice! You got mail.

der Geist 04-04-2007 02:54 AM

Wheels look great! I was looking at the same ones right after I bought my twists. I am really sorry that I didn't wait another week, I may have gotten these instead. At any rate the chrome looks awesome. I know a lot of people here aren't a big fan of chrome wheels or anything chrome but my personal opinion is they look great in chrome. Good choice

I like the chromes....I contemplated chrome carrera classics.....the rim I'm not particularly a fan of, I hear people say you love it or hate but it does provoke a strong sentiment....I feel your pain on the weather.....I hope cleaning them doesn't become a challenge! overall, nice change :D

Joe T 04-04-2007 05:55 AM

Very Nice :) The wheels in your sig were nice also.

Marc Gelefsky 04-04-2007 05:58 AM

I dont like Chrome on Porsches (except maybe an exhaust tip)
But that me.. :)

As long as you like it! Enjoy!

bmussatti 04-04-2007 06:02 AM

Husker, your car looks great! Just not a fan of the wheels.

leify01 04-04-2007 06:05 AM

Congratulations on your new wheels. They look really nice. I like the little spot of black on the center caps. Not that I am a big fan of chrome wheels myself but I think over all your car is looking pretty good.

The wheels look nice, I have chrome wheels too, I didn't buy them to please internet BB typists, you shouldn't either.

Dr. in all fairness, the poster, Husker, did ask for our opinions. And I think most people have diplomatically stated their preference.

True, only he needs to be completely happy...and he is. That all that matters. :)

I'm not trying to pick any fights, just say a lot of naysayers. Yes, he was looking for opinions I just thought he was getting too much negative feedback.

No problem here, Doc, it's all good! :)

boggtown 04-04-2007 03:50 PM

Say hello to your homies on the west side for me ok. lol. Sorry but im giving them the thumbs down. I even think if they were body color theyd rock, but chrome doesnt fit the body... Like a clown looks natural in a big rainbow wig, an investment broker would not. Such with the boxster, except with chrome wheels, lol.

husker boxster 04-04-2007 03:53 PM

Thanks everyone for your comments, positive or polite. Obviously I didn't spend $2700 to please the forum membership. I spent a lot of time and energy looking at a lot of options. Sometimes it was frustrating but I ended up with what I wanted. I knew there would be some desenting opinions and that's fine. I think HIFI said it best - we all want to make our cars distinctive. I chose to go a different direction than most to do that.

And sometimes its fun to stir the pot, hence my tongue-in-cheek opening sentence - all "adjectives" I've seen used to describe chrome wheels by forum members. It's also good to see opinions from many "low volume" posters. Looks like the topic moved their needle. Silent majority? (more pot stirring) :)

BTW...
I'm keeping the Sport Classic IIs for winter duty. Pretty nice wheels for that, I know but gotta look good in the snow.

bmussatti 04-04-2007 03:54 PM

Boggtown that wasn't very diplomatic! You need a "time-out". :(

OH A WISE GUY, HEY mOE

boggtown 04-04-2007 04:26 PM

Lol, its the internet, no ones diplomatic. Im just calling it how I see it, no pussyfooting around. I agree, it does stand out because not many boxsters have chrome (ive never seen one before), and I respect that. Let me put it this way, Go to google images and type in escalade, then type in boxster. Not one boxster has chome wheels, and all the escalades do..., Its not even a factory option for chrome.

In the spirit of honesty, you made that GT3 nose look ghetto with the screen porch look, since you have no third radiator, the center should have been left filled for downforce. How many of those google images had screen door in their vents?

corvettes are pretty common with chromes...in fact I thought more along the lines of the late 90's Trans Ams that had the chrome 5 stars whrn I saw the pics....

sooooo.....how you saw it was a pretty limited view....just an observation....but you can probably just say hi to the homies on the west side directly....your license plates do say shizle....my nizzle 4 shizle....snoop dog :D

boggtown 04-04-2007 05:02 PM

I live on the east side, lol. I know lots of vettes and camaros have chrome, and thats fine to me, it "fits" the style. And mesh is a factory option,
Left 996.505.323.91 $140.20
Right 996.505.324.91 $140.20
Center 996.505.321.92 $96.70

I must admit that I'm a "stock" fan...I love my Boxster just the way it is. However, I think your wheels look nice.
