lowering convertible top
I just bought a 1998 Boxster with 32,000 miles on it. All the manuals came with the car. Nevertheless, there is one question I have that is not answered in the owner's manual. When putting the convertible top down, are you supposed to leave the main latch unlatched? Or, after unlatching the latch and lowering the top part way, are you supposed to relatch the latch so that the latch handle is in the closed position when the top fully retracts and goes into its stowed postion?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide. |
Yes, leave the latch completely in the open position to lower the top. Closing it would interfere with raising the top.

Closing it b4 the cycle is completed will stop the Top operation as this triggers the micro-switch, overiding the circuit... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
Thanks. Closing the latch actually worked (the top still continued down into its retracted position), but I just want to know the intended position of the latch as the top retracts. Is it possible that my '98 Boxster does not have the micro switch override in the latch and that's why I was still able to put the top down with the latch closed?
I am glad to know, though, that the latch is intended to stay open -- makes for less hassle when opening the convertible top. I was wondering why the rear windscreen had that center dip in it. Now I know. |
