New Wheels!!!

Had my new wheels installed today. Here is the info:

19" Carrera Classics from Wheel Dynamics
Michelin PS2 tires, went with 275/35/19 in the rear
7mm spacers rear
Total Cost with Labor = $2300

I'm very happy with the look. The 7mm spacers add a more aggressive look to
the back, but subtle.

Here are some pics.

drburton 03-23-2007 12:09 PM

FYI - My old 18" Boxster S wheels are available in the Classifieds section.

blinkwatt 03-23-2007 12:09 PM

Very nice!

z12358 03-23-2007 12:21 PM

Looks very nice! Can you pls show a pic straight from the back and perhaps looking straight down one side of the car (from the back)? I'm thinking of putting 7mm spacers on my 18"s and am curious to see how the wheel stands relative to the well and body. What spacers did you get? Did you have to do alignment on your car after the new wheels and spacers?
Z.

Grizzly 03-23-2007 12:25 PM

I love it!

drburton 03-23-2007 12:27 PM

The spacers were from Wheel Dynamics so I'm not sure what brand they use, probably pretty generic, but they looked solid.

Here are a couple of additional pics but I don't think the angles/ shadows work very well so I'll try to take a couple more tomorrow - won't have time tonight.

z12358 03-23-2007 12:30 PM

Thx burton. Also wanted to say that your Box looks simply beautiful. Can't believe you were thinking of replacing it.
Z.
P.S. Time to change the sig pic.

unklekraker 03-23-2007 01:12 PM

very nice drb...very nice! did you get yours on time? I did on mine and took a day off from work to get it installed....

now change the pix and lets start a "Lower Our Box funds"...blink and I will be a loyal member :)

BoxsterBob - CA 03-23-2007 01:56 PM

Those look great! What are the wheel widths?

I have 15mm rear and 7 mm front spacers on my 18" Turbo Twists and they bring the wheels out nicely. :)

dcporsche99 03-23-2007 02:16 PM

Very nicely done!

porsche986spyder 03-23-2007 02:28 PM

Those look great, now you just need to update you sig./avatar so it matches your new look. ;)

porschegeorg 03-23-2007 03:24 PM

Very Nice. I wish your old wheels fit my 986.

bmussatti 03-23-2007 04:21 PM

Looks great, Drburton! Do the tires come mounted on the wheels and all balanced? Did they use the sticker wheel weights?

drburton 03-23-2007 06:42 PM

Thx for the compliments, I'm really happy with the results.

To answer a couple of the questions:

The wheel widths are 8 in front and 9.5 in rear. Spacers are in rear only.
The tires did not come mounted by choice. You can have Wheel Dynamics do the mounting but my neighbor owns a tire store so I had him order the tires and do the balancing etc.. (at cost). Yes, he used the sticker wheel weights.

I'll have to update my signature line too.

Arona 03-23-2007 07:47 PM

Very nice. My personal preference is for your new wheel set.

djomlas 03-23-2007 07:59 PM

you know what would make your car SICK?
:D

OMG..DJ! YOu are freaking awesome....Can you go to my garage right now and photoshop the Boxster about an inch :D

djomlas 03-23-2007 08:09 PM

lowering a car in photoshop is actually fairly easy, that took me like 2 minutes, and it came out pretty neat.
so if you have a pic, ill drop it for you

unklekraker 03-23-2007 08:16 PM

PM sent....
i lost the armor all on my wheels :(

Bob, do you have pics of your wheels with the spacers?

bmussatti 03-24-2007 03:31 AM

WOW that looks really cool with the photo shop lowering trick! Great job, DJ.

Hey Drburton, you will notice a very different dirt pattern and potential for some stone chipping at the very bottom of the wheel well/bumper area with the wheels kicked-out 7mm. Just be carefull.

drburton 03-24-2007 07:05 AM

Wow, the lowering really does look good. I wasn't even really considering that. Now you have added another mod to my list. I was hoping the list would get shorter and not longer, before my wife shoots me.

bmussatti 03-24-2007 08:25 AM

Don't worry if she shoots you, Burton...she is after all...a medical professional!

That's not necessarily good. That means she'll know exactly where to shoot him.

drburton 03-25-2007 04:35 PM

I have a buyer for my old Boxter S wheels, and he is a Cayman owner. Just want to verify that these wheels will fit on a Cayman with no issues. I think they will, but I want to be 100% sure before i send them out.

Thanks.

bmussatti 03-25-2007 05:01 PM

Drburton, yes, just reference this wheel list from Porsche:

super66 03-25-2007 05:20 PM

doc, wheels look awesome, PM sent asking for tips on purchase....I'm going in....

joshuaalbert 03-29-2007 04:08 AM

drburton, I am considering getting the exact same setup you have. I love the look of the 19" Carrera Classics. Have you noticed any difference in the ride since you made the change? Also, where did you get them installed?

Thanks

drburton 03-29-2007 07:16 AM

I had them installed locally at Samaritan Tire. My neighbor owns the company so he gave me a good deal on the tires.

I expected the ride quality to deteriorate, but it didn't. I actually think it is improved a bit but this is more based on the change in tires. I had the standard Michelin Pilots on my original wheels and I put the PS2s on the new wheels. Seems like the PS2 has a softer ride with less road noise. So no noticeable deterioration in ride quality.

I'm very happy with the results, the 7mm spacers are great too. Little wider track but its a subtle change (the wheels are still inside the wheel wells).

eslai 03-29-2007 03:34 PM

Shoud've gone with these....

SD987 03-29-2007 03:44 PM

Eslai, those are some sweet rims my friend.

I've been looking for something similar...but with a unicorn motif.

Jeph 03-29-2007 03:48 PM

RONAL BEARS! I wonder how many sets of those have been sold in the history of... those.

eslai 03-29-2007 05:12 PM

They're closing them out now, and you can't have any, they're all mine. MINE.

(well, too bad they really only come in like 14x6 right now. Probably a 4-bolt pattern too. Alas....)

unklekraker 03-29-2007 05:17 PM

So doc...DO I see a lowered Boxster in Horizon?

drburton 03-30-2007 03:03 AM

It definately looks nice but I don't think I'm going to lower any time soon. My most likely next mod will be a new exhaust and even that is a ways out.

unklekraker 03-30-2007 04:47 AM

I agree...coz' that's the advice I got from a local shop here..I was talking to the owner asking about lowering the box and the first thing he ask is..is it for the looks and I said, yah...he turn around and said, it will look good but for the money that you will spend, im better off upgrading the exhaust first.
Here's what he recommend for my mods (in ff: order)
-Exhaust
-Big Brake kit (When the factory parts need to be replaced)
-ECU (but he said not really needed for a D/D)
-Spoiler kit
-Suspension/lowering

and if i total it all together...I just need to add few more dollars to get engine swap :D

OMG...the MOD addiction..aaarrrgggghhhhhh! :D :D :D
