Track day tires and rims: advice
 

Did my first track day last Saturday. Found out I need different tires. DUH! What do you suggest for a 2000 986 Base with stick suspension. I plan on having a street set and a different track day set.

Simple, Bridgestone RE-71R. It's the goto street tire for track and AX

Maybe Hankook R-S4. Need to see some tests and reviews. The early stuff I have seen looks promising

RE-71Rs are a fantastic autocross tire but they get too hot and greesy on the track. I'd go with the RS-4 or Rivals.

I have been running Re-71's on the track all last season and this season as well and have not felt them greesy at all.

What tire pressure were you running? I generally aim for 31/30 hot

Can't really know what R-S4's are like as there have not been any real testing done, at least that I can find. 1 or 2 reviews and they have been very positive

To my knowledge, Rivals are designed as an AX tire, at least the Rival S

I would say that at least at our PCA track events probably around 75% of the people run Re-71s if they are not running Hoosers

That depends, all tires are a compromise of some sort.

Are you on stock suspension, stock alignment?

Do you want tires that will last 1 weekend or a whole DE season?

Timed competition or just fun DE track days?

Do you want to spend $600, $1000, $1600?
