Hi All,

If you have one for sale, please PM. Or email me at bartonbuller89ATgmail

Thanks in advance.

I'd be interested if someone organized a group-buy.

Who needs this part?

Hey there Guys,

I can run a batch of these off if there are people in need of them?

It is simply a modified OEM part, I know, because I was there when it was thought up.

I would be happy to save you all a bit of money on these. How many people are in need of them?

Call it $150.00 shipped? That will save you $50.00 on it. Actually a little more with shipping.

Get me a total number needed and I will get them made up. No biggie.

I have a 70,000 mi 2001 S with a perfect working 6 speed Is this part recommended to avoid eventual 2nd gear pop out failure or is it meant as a band-aid fix if it happens ?

Trendy996 08-02-2016 04:36 AM

It's ment to prevent it and a band-aid fix after it happens

Erik Johnson 08-02-2016 07:02 AM

I could not have said it better. If you have no damage this part will help to prevent it from happening. What it essentially does is allow the operating sleeves to engage the gear slightly deeper, which gives a more positive engagement and more material for the operating sleeve to work with.

If you have some damage though, it will allow in some cases a bandaid, and help delay the eventual rebuild.

Pretty inexpensive insurance, if you ask me.

Erik Johnson 08-02-2016 10:31 AM

I have four of these that I can have made up here in short order. I can always order more of them if need be though. They are always in stock.

Who would like like one?

FYI, had this installed in my '02 to prevent any pop-out when I had the clutch/RMS/IMS done. It's made a big difference in how the car shifts. Well worth the $.

How does your product compare with the Gbox one?

Erik Johnson 08-23-2016 10:34 AM

It is exactly the same thing. No difference between the two.

I did not know there are alternatives to GBox until after I had already gotten it (or I should say after the technician that I took it to that’s a really good old-school independent had learned about it and ordered one).
It, coupled with losing the prior owner’s ill-advised short shift kit (I say ill-advised because he never researched the issue before putting in a short shift kit which just made the problem worse) did the trick.
We also put in the Porsche Mobil One PTX 75W90.

It feels wonderful to be able to shift from 1st to 2nd or 3rd to 2nd with confidence and no grinding. The prior owner was good with many things especially cosmetically in terms of the condition of the car and its paint which had been ceramic coated but somebody led him astray regarding the shift issue, probably whoever talked him into putting in a short shift kit.

He did convince me to run Joe Gibbs Racing DT40 5w40 in it, I changed to that after driving it from CA to NC. I may switch my 993 to Joe Gibbs DT50 15w50.

I didn’t recall the shift throws in a 996 I had as being horrible and I don’t mind the throws in this 986 now that I’m back to a stock shiftgear shift set up with a GBox 2nd gear detent and new transmission fluid, now the car feels like it should.

Does anyone know where I can pick up one of these detents ? My second gear started acting up today.

Hi Erik,

Do you have one left? I’m thinking about putting one in preemptively.
PM me.
