WTB: driver's side door storage bin lid - 03 Boxster

Hi guys, anyone have a drivers side door pocket lid in decent shape? My original broke where the tension spring fits into the lid - actually, the PO had used epoxy for a prior repair. So now the lid will not stay in the open position, and flaps. Same thing happened on passenger side, and I was able to get one on eBay for $20, but only see ones for twice that amount now. A little too rich for a minor annoyance.

I have some for the 97-99 but it's hard to find a 2000-04 interior piece that isn't scratched.

Thanks, Woody.

I'm not concerned with minor blemishes on my 13 year old young lady So I'd be interested if you something that fits the bill.

Here is the current offending unit.

You may be able to see small marks here.

How do you remove the flap, anyway? Does it require taking off the door panel?

Mine has the broken spring hook and in general looks terrible -- a third of the rubber coating has worn away, revealing the nicely textured ABS underneath. I would be perfectly happy with just the raw surface.

Does anyone know how to remove the rubber coating from interior parts? I tried solvents on the vanity light cover, which did no good, then a wire brush, which left the surface mutilated.

There must be a way, but I haven't seen anyone that's found it yet.

Ah, silver - yes, I can help. It's pretty easy to take them off. Don't need to remove the door card. Just open the flap and remove the two hinge pins. You can tap them lightly with a small nail or punch with a hammer. The spring is located by the hinge to the rear of the car. Don't lose it.

I did just what you suggest - removed the flaking rubberized soft touch paint the Porsche decided to use on all these black plastic pieces. It will come off pretty easily if you simply run the piece through a dishwasher. B

Sorry, didn't mean to hit send. No need for solvents. The hot water will loosen it up so the paint can easily be rubbed off with a non-abrasive scrub pad.

Now reattaching the lid is a little trick due the spring and it's hard to reach placement. Keep the lid in the open position and insert the end of the spring in its tiny little hole mounting position. Then reinsert the hinge pins.
