I can't double-check because I'm not home right now, so I don't have access to the pictures I took, but when I took the top apart to get it painted, I'm pretty sure it had a Porsche part number molded into the underside of the top. It could be aluminum, but I didn't scratch it to find out because if it was fiberglass, I didn't want to weaken the structure. I can tell you that without any of the headliner and trim, this top is really light. IIRC, it was as light as some of the Boxster Spec guys were saying the fiberglass tops were. Did any aftermarket manufacturers make fiberglass tops with the ears?

But again, I can't be sure about any of it as I'm out of town. When I get back, I'll check the pictures to see if I remember correctly.

Does anybody know of a way to test if the top is fiberglass or aluminum without damaging it?

Looking at the picture from when I had the top apart, I can't see anything that makes me think this is aluminum or fiberglass. If it's not a Porsche top though, it's a very good reproduction, as it's fully decked out with the headliner and all that.
I've changed my mind on the price again. I've decided to sell it for $800. That's what I paid for it, so that's really all I want out of it. I don't need to make a profit on it.

Am I missing something, there are no pictures of the top itself. This would surely help sell it right?

Heh. I don't have any way to get it there, and if I were going to do that, I'd have to charge you for my travel costs. Sorry.

				Boxster hardtop

Hi again! Would you post some photos of the top with the cover removed please? Is the paint color solid black or metallic black ('black pearl')? Do you know the paint color code for the top, or the car it was matched to? The color code can be found on a paper sticker stuck on the underside of the front compartment cover. Thanks!

I took some pictures yesterday, but haven't gotten them posted yet. I will post them tonight hopefully.
The top is painted to match a '99 Boxster in plain black. It's not metallic. I do not have a paint code because the top was painted to match my car. When I bought it was red.

When I took the top out of the cover, I discovered a couple of chips in the paint. The first ones I remembered. They are on the right "ear" (plastic cover of the adjusting bolts). I don't think those are a big deal because they snap off and can easily be repainted. However, I had forgotten that there are a couple (2) of paint chips on the driver's side lip around the door window. Since these are on the top itself, these are kind of a big deal, since they show the red paint underneath.

I will post those pictures asap.
