Factory hard tops, especially painted in the color of one's own car, are always going to be twice what the owner wants to pay... and possibly across the country with a current owner who hasn't a clue as to how to safely palletized it and ship it.
If your buddy is patient and is willing to keep an eye on eBay, they will pop up from time to time, but will be costly to repaint and ship.
Buying a glass window replacement soft top is going to be a cool upgrade and far less expensive all the way around... and plentiful.
