Does anyone know if Porsche Boxster 1998 has traction control?

It does not. The only "nanny" feature is ABS. It is a driver's car. It doesn't drive you.

PSM (optional) was introduced with MY2001 in Q4 2000, as far as i can remember.

The early traction control sucks. I have it on my 2000 and despise it.

Me too, 2000 S, blah. When I would forget to turn it off I could tell as soon as I sailed into the first corner.... I believe the old TC was available on at least some of the 97-99 as an option, since I know of some Spec Boxster folks that have it on their cars and have to remember to turn it off each time.

My '02 2.7 has TC, and I haven't figured out how to turn it off. There is one turn at all the tracks where it interferes, and I really need to solve the puzzle of turning it off. I can't find anything in the owners manual about it.

Is the '02 TC the same as the '03 PSM? My PSM seems to turn-off completely with the button on the dash. I've heard others say that the button doesn't turn everything off, but I've never had it kick back on with the button off.

My '99 tiptronic had traction control.

It was the first vehicle I've ever had with traction control. My wife was the primary driver and being a tiptronic car I didn't really "play" in it. BUT when it snowed pretty hard a few years ago the traction control worked like a boss. I could pass just about anything on the road, on all season tires no less. And the dash would do all kinds of flashing. So my opinion of the traction control is quite positive.

Traction control is quite positive in the snow, but I don't do track days in the snow. When the TC engages at the track, it tends to kill the power by about 50% briefly. Many cars of that era would kill the power 100% for at several seconds, so it could be worse. Compared to modern TC though, it sucks!

My car doesn't have any buttons for TC, so I don't know how I can turn it off. The good news is that I really have to get the tire spinning up a lot to get the TC to engage, so I can normally use some throttle control to keep it from engaging. The bad news is that the TC operation isn't consistent; sometimes it doesn't engage, other times it kicks in very easily.
