My 2000 Boxster S blew a gasket or something...
 

Last weekend we (10 Porsches) were driving through the German Eifel (near the Nürburgring) and we were planning to have a nice trip on those nice curvy German roads. We started in Prüm and drove through the hills, passed some nice villages and had lots of fun until:

There was no warning whatsoever that this was going to happen; it just did! I lost all drive and all the lights in my dashboard came on; my dashboard looked like a X-mas tree...

It looked as if the car was going to catch fire, but luckily it didn't.

Car doesn't start and will be transported from Germany to the Netherlands next week.

That's no fun. If its like mine, it won't start because one of your cylinders is full of oil.

So how is/was yours repaired?

The first thing I did was jack the car up and pull all the plugs. After letting the oil drain out, I turned the motor to make sure it spun freely. Then I replaced the AOS and cleaned all the oil out of the intake. Threw in some new plugs, and she was good to go.

The engine has died... At least it went with a bang... a BIG bang...

Man, that makes me cringe.
I hope you find a replacement engine without too much trouble and can get back on the road ASAP.

very sorry for you and your engine.

I think in that case there is no other way than to look for a replacement engine.

Please also make shure to clean all water hoses, radiators etc. as good as you can. Best would be to replace all that stuff, because engine oil in water isn't good for rubber hoses and if you have some parts in the radiators that can ruin the new engine. So 2 options: excessive cleaning or replacing. Cleaning is less expensive but takes a lot of time to do and sometimes it doesn't work.

I used the Brexit to my advantage and bought a replacement block in the UK. It turns out it is cheaper to buy salvage parts in the UK than in the Netherlands, Germany or Belgium.

It has probably something to do that UK cars are worth much less in the rest of Europe because their steering wheel is on the wrong/right side ;) . The 'market' for RHD cars is much smaller than LHD cars and that makes the cars (and also the parts) a lot cheaper...

Now the �£ has dropped considerably compared to the € it became even more interesting to buy an engine in the UK.

The replacement engine arrived today.

I'm going to clean as much as possible, but some things I will replace (AOS).

Hopefully I will be driving the Boxster again in August!

Although it will probably start after my holidays... Hopefully the car will be up and running again in September...
