Got some stuff painted

A good friend of mine from the sportbike board I'm on does very high quality custom car and bike painting. So I took some Porsche parts to him.

What do you guys think?

He's cheaper than bumperplugs and his work is outstanding. The pictures don't do his paintwork justice. The bumperettes are dirty from me driving around today, but the color is just as deep as the factory job. The interior parts and the headrest screens have just as much depth to them.

BTW, my car is Rain Forest Green Metallic.

If anyone on the board is interested he said I could give you his info.

Very nice work. The bumper and center console look really nice. Would it be okay to ask how much he charged you for all this?

You know you can make the knob of that ebay short shifter stand straight up by taking it apart and turning the shaft around.

What gash? I see some reflection on it, but no gash. Are you being funny?

Thanks, guys. I'm very pleased with the way the parts turned out. I'm probably going to have him paint more stuff this summer.

boggtown: Gash? There's no gash in the rear window. Does it look like there's one in the pic?

blue2000s: That's the original shifter and knob.

As for cost, I got all the parts painted at once. He also came over and fixed all of the little scratches and nicks in the exterior paint. The car looks like it was just driven off the lot. For all of it he charged me $640 and it took a week to do. I got a bit of a deal because we're friends. But for anyone else his pricing will be a bit higher, but it will still be less than what you can find on the net.

blinkwatt, I'll PM you his info and you can ask how much to do the bumperettes.

good eye, boggtown! I just went out and looked and you're right, there is a tear in the rear window. DAMN! It wasn't there a few weeks ago when I drove her last. I wonder how it tore. It's been sitting in my garage this whole time.

Now I've got to call the dealership to see if this is covered under the warranty I bought.

DAMN!

Well ********************. I looked at my warranty info and the warranty I bought covers every single thing in/on the car except the convertible top, glass, and plastic. It covers the motor, but not the top. I'm going to start a new thread about the top.

Back to the painted parts thread.

boggtown, thanks again for noticing the tear. It would have sucked driving through a rainstorm and finding out then.

No problem, just use CJ's packing tape fix for now. I guess you can buy a green tinted piece of plastic now if thats any consolation.

looks good! I think Bumperplugs was running a holiday sale $400 for the center console, but I don't think it included the ashtray. The bumperetes were $250?
I think...but I remember it wasn't low enough for me to pull the trigger.

I would suggest covering it in stonguard. there's a shop in California that does really high end cars maybe you can ship it to them? They're a Rennlist sponsor in the 911 forum. Premier something or other. That center console is a high traffic area I keep a Microfiber towel over it when I'm in the car to keep my watch and sleeve buttons for marring the plastic.

as for you window. Definitely looks repairable. Try some clear silicone caulk. Maybe tape around it with painters blue tape and seal up the tear.
Doesn't look like vandals to me, did you lower the top on a somewhat cold day (below 60f.)?

Felt bad, and charged you less

lol, no it wasn't my painter friend. If he would have done it he definately would have said, "sorry bro, I'll fix it for you." But the car was in my garage and he just had the parts.

I think I know exactly how I cracked the window. When it was time to put the parts back in the car I put the top down in my garage to make it easier to work on. It was pretty chilly in the garage but I didn't think the window would crack. Chills was wrong.

That's a good shot. You can see how smooth the finish is... like glass.
