Long story....
Last year when I got the chassis done I test drove the car to make sure the adaptor would even work at all. It did.
The rotary on the other hand had issues. (Issues of my own making). The intake manifold design was not good. The 48ida's I chose for the car need to be within 5 degrees of plain. They were not, and the carbs were flooding badly. I didn't know this; with a build of this magnitude there are a billion variables.
So I figured compression wasn't up to snuff. So I rebuilt the engine. New side seals etc.. and still not running right. I've been in the rotary scene long enough to have built a few of these engine, so I knew it had enough compression. I just figured PP engines (which I am new to) were different. PP engines are not different the intake manifold is of poor design.
So then I bought a professionally built racing engine; with all the goodies done to it. 3mm apex seals, 3 window bearings, studs, LOTS of oil mods etc etc etc. Still the engine wasn't running right.... I still havent figured out the intake design was bad.
Next I figured spark must be the issue. So I dusted off another distributor I had lying around, and swapped out the 4 pin HEIs. No real affect on the running of the engine.
at this point FINaLLY I turned to the carb/intake. and what do you know; it runs. Not well still have to tune the carb.
BUT WaIT there's more.
In the beginning I had the starter extension working perfect. I used a slip gear on the end of the bendix that allowed the flywheel to free spin while the starter was engaged. Worked like a champ, but with all that cranking on a bad intake manifold design that was flooding my engine problems came along.
about april of last year I broke the end of the bendix extension off. I lost the free spin on the end of the starter. I didn't get the part number off of the starter I robbed the bendix from so I couldn't source a new bendix. I said to hell with it; the free spin inside of the starter body is fine enough. I was wrong.
The first of the problems arose when I broke the carrier bearing that holds the extension to the block. Like a real dumbass I just kept cranking with the gears slipping. Obviously this did not do good things to the starter or the flywheel.
I have since rebuilt the starter with a slip function both in the starter and on the bendix. I also have replaced the carrier bearing, but the flywheel is still mucked up.
and that is where I sit currently. Basically just need to install the new flywheel and tune the carb.
But I gave the car till the end of April. I did not meet that deadline, so I pushed it out of my garage so I could fix my daily driver.
Good news is the DD is almost finished
