Winter Prep Detailing Pics
 

Some pics of my winter prep. I ditched the Klasse this time and on strong recommendations I tried the Werkstatt Prime Polish. Prime comes in several flavors Strong, Arcylic and Carnauba enhanced. My Arctic Silver paint is 6 years old now and parked outside all the time so I went with the Strong. I did this by hand because I was too lazy to find the extension cord for the PC orbital. But even by hand its the best result I have ever seen on this color paint. I was surprised because my paint is always pretty clean and reflective so I thought it would only be marginally better but this notched it up 300% I got a better shine with this polish alone than I have with most carnaubas and gloss sprays.

For sealing I usually use Poorboys EXP which is much much easier to use than Klasse's sealant. Werkstatt's Acrylic Jett Trigger is a popular alternative to Klasse SG as well. Basically I see no reason to use Klasse at all now. Sorry.
Acrylic Jett comes in different flavors as well on a pro detailers advice I tried
an equal parts mixture of Carnauba Jett and Optimum Car Wax Spray. The OCW helps to spread the Caranuba and gives it a more even finish. I decided to spray the Carnauba Jett directly onto the panel and then OCW over that. Let it sit for a few minutes and buffed it out.

As always I use FK 425 as my LSP (last step product) to restore the anti-static barrier which cuts down on cleaning. It also preserves all this work very well. The finish leave the paint feeling dewey slick. works well on the interior, wheels and glass.

These pics were not enhanced and the photos were taken under full sun, no cheating with the dusk sky tone reflection.

Cool. I, too, recently detailed using the Prime polish and then I used the Acrylic Jett to seal. I used these products because many people on the detailing boards, recommended Werkstatt as an easier alternative to Klasse. I have no experience with Klasse but I can say that Prime was pretty easy to use with the PC. I have only used the Werkstatt products so far on my black SUV and I can say that it looks much better than when I used NXT. Then again, I hadn't used the PC in the past. I used the FK425 on your advice, Perfectlap. I have to admit I was a skeptic but now I'm a believer. When I cut the grass, I usually have to put the SUV in the driveway and it usually gets covered in dust and grass. However, the last time I cut grass, there was hardly any dust on the SUV. Most of what little was on there, blew off the car when I went out later. The SUV has stayed cleaner since the last washing. I really like FK425 on the glass. I'll have to try it on the interior. I'm also more of a believer in detailing clay. I used it for the first time in the spring but I couldn't really tell any difference. I read somewhere (either Autopia or Detail City) that using clay is actually a fine abrasive/polish, rather than just a sticky material to lift gunk. Once, I treated the clay as a polishing method and took my time using it, I got much better results. I've gotten a few comments on my SUV even though I don't think I'm done trying to get out some scratches and bird bomb damage. A little more practice and I'll be ready to tackle detailing the Boxster.

update:
Just tried FK's 1000P high temp paste wax. Needs to be applied THIN and in several layers. Its acrylic (means LONG lasting) and works well under the 425 quick spary.
Results? Pretty darn incredible. Definitely a notch above the usual "just waxed look". My buddy ordered a tin (huge can) for his new EOS convertible and gave me some. Too bad they don't make a smaller can a pound of this stuff will last 10 years.
I would have taken pics but my camera got wet and maybe down for the count.
Anyhoo the 1000P is like adding an extra layer of clear coat.

I'm wondering if I can dilute this and mix it with 425 for a quickshine spray on steroids...
