Frontend swap on 986

I saved these pictures a while back. Does anyone know where these parts came from, and if they are bolt-on, or need to be customized?

Thanks.

That's an '02-'04 996 Turbo front end. I know that Los Angeles Porsche Dismantlers sells a complete kit to make that change for something like $5,000. I think it's a total bolt on with no modification necessary, using all Porsche Turbo parts.

What I'm trying to find out is if I try to upgrade to the 2002-2004 996 headlights and front bumper, will I need to change the front fenders as well? Anyone know? I need a bumper anyway, so...

Yes, different headlights = different fenders

yup, different guards, splash shields, front bar etc...

I personally dont like the update turbo look on a boxster doesnt flow with the rear end imho..

much sexier if you update it with a GT3, Tequipment bar or something similar...

just my opinion though.... :o

I agree with you on the turbo bumper, but I do like the newer headlights. If it was an easy swap I'd consider it, but I'm not changing the whole front end just to gain the cool lights.

Here's a RUF front end swap that mr986tt did:

Looks like the 996 C4S uses the same front end too.

I don't have a 986 now, call me a ricer but I can't stand how the 986 front looks. I really like the 987 front though. But at almost 50k, that's beyond my reach for now.

The turbo front is okay, will the 987 front bolt onto the 986 as well? That'd be the ultimate.

Take a look.

Was the first known conversion in the US...next to the Tweekster.

PM if you have questions

Nice 02+ front end. Everything was bolt-on, right?

I am almost ready to buy a Boxster-S, I am really looking forward to this, or do a custom job with parts from a 987.

Does the yellow tint on the lights do anything in terms of lighting?

Kind of agree with you on the bumper too... I'm sold on the GT3. Never thought I'd be into any mods on my ride - but after this forum, I'll be looking into the Bumper and sideskirt changeout come spring. Deamber as well.

Is that a 987 front on a 986 I see?

jwilson95 12-27-2006 03:01 PM

Looks like a 986 to me by the size of the side intake

sfwebguy 12-28-2006 06:41 PM

If you look closely, the headlights are from a 987.

I just got a call from Frank at LA Porsche Dismantler, he told me that the 987 frontend is a bolt-on deal on the 986. Frontend meaning fenders, lights, hood, bumper, and etc. Can someone confirm?

djomlas 12-28-2006 09:05 PM

im sure if he said it it must be true, they know a thing or 2 about porsches

europwr 01-02-2007 11:10 AM

I've been looking into this conversion as well. I was going to put it on my buddies car.

I am almost 100% sure its just bolt on with a few exceptions of a few screws, bolts, brackets. Just like my turbo front end.

krn986 01-04-2007 04:22 PM

Looks hot hence it's a complete conversion of the 996... However I'm not feeling it, 996 frontend on a boxster? That's like taking a 328i and converting it to an M3.
just IMHO.
