Just got my car back from shop; opinions are welcomed
Guys,
Just got my car back from the shop, please let me know what you guys think.
Also, while driving back, I discovered several problems, please help!
1) radio code - is the shop the only place where I can find out what the code is?
2) airbag light is on, is there a way I can reset it manually or do I have to bring it to the shop?
3) before when I press and hold the window switch for 2 seconds, I was able to roll it up or down automatically, now the automatic feautre is gone. What can I do to fix it?
Sorry guys, I can't upload the photos. How do I reduce the size of the photo?

I believe the radio code should be in your owners manuel black case, it is the size of a credit card, and on one side should have the code on it. A OBDII scanner cant reset the airbag code, bring it to a dealer and have them do it. I had my ignition switch replaced and they tripped the airbag light. When I TAP the window buttons up or down they work automatically. When I hold the buttons down they operate manually. Might be different though.

rctboxsters, you need to "re-teach" the windows the automatic up/down feature. Do you have an owners manual? Directions are in there. It's pretty easy. I think you just hold the button for aone cycle up and on cycle down.
It has been review here too, so maybe try a search.

I was able to search for the for the instruction on how to set the automatic window. It is fixed. Thanks alot guys.
As for the airbag warning indicator and the radio code, I guess I will have to leave it to the dealer when I bring it in for the 60K service.
Once again, you guys have been very helpful!

Thanks Randall, I haven't done that much to it, too busy with work and getting ready for my soon to come baby.
Although I did replace the console from the original black plastic to the painted one, deamberized the lights and also replaced the side air intakes to silver just to make it look.

hey i just bought side skirts from depart stop in california. very good price, and paint was very nice. only problem we had was that they were 996 skirts, so they had to be returned and they will be shipping out 986 skirts this week. not a big problem, small mistake, okay huge mistake. as long as they correct the mistake i am happy. i paid $1200 painted and shipped to canada. really good price for factory skirts. i have been quoted here in toronto upto $1800 installed. the factory skirts are the wayyyyy to go, they just clip on very easy and use all factory holes, like they belong. nothing too it. very easy install. jack the car up take off the rear wheel, and get under and clip and screw into factory holes...that easy....

Fab,
These are Zender skirts that I purchased from the guy in Houston almost 7 months ago, as posted by Randall. The only problem with these skirts is that the installation will be a pain in the ... The shop has to do alot of extra work because of the gap, but at the end, it's still a good product.
I brought my car in the shop to have the rear bumper fixed because someone had backed up into it and a big dent. I posted a pic of the dent awhile back. Anyway, there was no charge for the whole thing because I work at an attorney office and have referred so many clients to the shop. I guess this is what you would consider as I scratch your back, you scratch mine.
I will take more photos of it later on to show you how exactly the skirts look like.

This happen to me when I took my old 986 to the
Dealer to replace the air flow mass sensor.
You have to enter the radio code in other to use the radio and The air bag light was on.
According to the dealership, mechanic disconnected the battery to work in the Air mass sensor.
I call the dealership and they asked me to bring it back.
The dealer have to get the serial number of the radio and
Call Porsche to get the radio code. It is a 4 digit number, usually in back of the Manual. It just happen that I did not have the manual this Boxster.
It took about 20 mins. The air bag light was reset and getting the radio code was done dealership free of charge.
If you get the radio code save it because every time you disconnect The battery you have to re-enter the radio code.

I called the local Porsche dealer this morning to find out about the code. The lady advised me that since I didn't purchase the car at that specific dealership, she cannot pull out the code for me using the VIN number. I would have to talk to a service advisor to find out how to obtain the code. Still waiting for the advisor to call me back.
May be I'll swing by that dealership during lunch to find out about the airbag light also.
Thanks for info guys!

I am surprise. I did not buy my Porsche from this dealership, but take it to then for repairs, and they always been very helpful. I remember seen the manager Accessing the radio function manually to get the radio serial number then calling Porsche headquarter to get the radio code. They can also use the diagnostic computer too
to get the radio code.
It sound like your dealership might want to charge you to get your radio code.
Good luck.

Just got my car back from shop..
Nice front bumper. Have you resolved the air bag light issue. I have the same problem. the airbag light just came lit on my '01 S. I contacted Porsche Dealer in Fremont and they told me they had to run full diagnostics, possible change the seat buckle and upgrade the entire air bag module? all this for "just " 1,500 to 1,700 bucks! ouch!!
they also told me if the airbag is the problem, they would have to replace it, but it is not just a simple code reset. as one thinks.
Keep us posted.

I love that front bumper. Is that Aerokit 2 OEM or Fiberglass repro?...

^ That bumper is fiberglass. Its the GT3 MK II version that was 'retrofitted' to work with 97-04 Boxsters and 99-01 911's. You can get the GT3 MKI version in factory polyurethane from DE Parts aka DPS motorsports and others for $900-1000. A much better value than fiberglass which never fits as good as lazer cut factory parts made from a mold. Fiberglass can sometimes require allot of body shop labor to get the precise fit before prime and paint.
