986 2DIN and wood project

10 Images of my latest project:

removed lots of interior parts and had them treated with water transfer printing - wood design. While doing that I also moved the climate uint down to make space for a 2DIN radio.

I found an OEM wood steering wheel, brake handle and shift knob. You can see some pictures here:

I also installed a 2-DIN system.

I was thinking of doing my center console in wood instead of silver. You appear to have some high-quality work. If I could see it in person rather than in photos it may help me decide to go ahead and do the work. I also haven't found anyone in my area who does this work.

I think the all black is too bland, but I don't think I would do as much trim in wood as you have.

Looks pretty good...and it won't crack and be less bulky

I probably would have done the windshield defroster pieces (but that might be too glary) instead of the window triangles, but that is of course up to your own liking ;)

I was lucky enough, to find some really good AND CHEAP (<50$) 996 dark burl wood side vent pieces on eBay, so my wood conversion is finished.

Think it's nice. But i would have preferred black tinted wood, because of the reflections. I don't like any reflections. That drives me crazy. That's why my interior is black and stays black – best works matte black for me as interior color. ;)

Something most people today forget is that classic sport cars often had wooden interiors.

Interesting to see that here are no wood haters like in the german Porsche forums. ;) Maybe guys that like wood interiors from outside Germany might get cheap wood interior sets or cars with wooden interior from Germany. ;)

Regards, Markus

Please let me know if you see anything for sale. The wood trim on my e-brake handle cracked. I glued it back on, but I prefer an undamaged part.

Not my style but I must admit it looks pretty good for faux wood.

Does anyone know an easy fix for "tiny" cracks in the lacquer (wood underneath seems okay)?...kinda like "apply special clear lacquer, which creeps into the cracks"

Nice job! Reminds me of the interior of our Jaguar.

Why wood you do that? I'd leaf that out next time. Definitely barking up the wrong tree. It looks like aspen.

Count me in with your German forum friends, Markus.
I just don't get it.
