Finally ran out of excuses...
I've wanted a Porsche since I was 17, and finally ran out of "reasons" to say no. My Dad was 78 when he bought his first Porsche, so I guess it runs in the family.
Anyway, I ended up with this beauty: http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1451355188.jpg It's a 2006. and had 9445 miles on it, was mechanically and cosmetically perfect, maybe beyond perfect, and I couldn't say no. The seller had 5 other cars, and just never drove it. It was in Sacramento, about 460 miles from here. I drove back on Hwy 49, a twisty two lane through the gold country. I have some pictures of that, but they are too big to post, and have to be Photo Shopped first. So that was October, and I have put just over 3000 miles on it since. We have been autocrossing already and will do more of that next year. The unexpected part is that my wife loves it as much as I do, and frequently suggests going for a drive, something that never happened before. New topic: How come the Spell Check complains about "Boxster"? Doesn't it know where we are? |
looks great ! enjoy !!

The dealer advised me to treat it like a brand new car, and go easy on it for the first couple thousand miles or so.. He said the seals might not be properly seated, or something like that. Luckily, I had just about that many miles on it when I took it to autocross school. Topless; Yes, I joined PCA-SB about a week after I got home. |
Congrats, and that's a beautiful example of the Boxster! I always hoped to find a garage queen like that, but ended up with a high mileage car in far worse shape... didn't have enough money saved and didn't have nearly enough patience to wait for one to come along. Good for you!
Be sure to take the motor to near-redline each time you drive it. The owners who pussy-foot around in their boxsters are always the ones who have engine problems stemming from poor oil circulation. Better to wear it out a little early with high revs than to starve a part of the motor that could benefit from more oil at higher RPMs now and then. |
Have a good indie go over it, take care of all the "normal" maintenance items (especially those where you don't know when something was last done - like flushing the brake fluid - should be done every two years I believe), and then drive the hell out of it! It is way past the break-in period, and is begging you to treat it like a real sports car - finally!
She is a real beauty - good luck! |
