The Black Hole - Updated Pix

Here's some shots of The Black Hole (The name BruceLee gave my 97 Boxster for the whopping piles of cash I have thrown into it since buying it two years ago).

I put 250 miles on it this morning just for fun, and did it in less than 3 hours on backroads west of Houston including two stops...one for coffee and one to pee. And just because I like Richard, I will not say how fast I drove, but I will say I did break a new personal record in the Boxster and she had more room to zoom but hey, fast is fast.

Do you enjoy the song La Grange by ZZ Top? I had that song jamming while driving by La Grange, the very place!

These shots show my new litronics, renovated seats, 3 spoke wheel, new shifter, "keep me out of jail noisemaker" (V1), and new tail lamps. The muffler bypass mod is next!

Oh yeah... here's a shot of my silver Techart gauges and aluminum trim rings as well...

Beautiful car! I must completely deamber my car soon as you did.

Did you get your litronics from Suncoast or did you get them used? I want them so bad but can't quite stomach the $1200.

Looks great Randall!

Dude your still jammin

Nice...one of the best looking 986's I've seen both inside and out.

It's got a menacing look to it, I could easily see David Hasselhoff driving it... :)

I like those rims and I'm not a particularly rim-fixated individual.

I think the limo tint on the side windows and no amber really makes the difference. Plus, those Camaro rims do make the car look unique... in a bad way if you ask me.

I'm going to find some ammonia at the grocery store and spray down the windows and remove the tint altogether, and move up to 18's after this set of tires is worn out.

I've got a bunch of little projects lined up:

Replace the coolant overflow tank (preventative maintenance)
Replace the handbrake as mine has a crack in the plastic (got a brand new one on ebay for $9 a year ago!)
Replace the hinge on the oddments tray (everyone should do this if they own an older boxster whether it needs it yet or not)
Replace the muffler with one I've had modified to make it louder one way or another.

None of these things are all that expensive considering I already have the parts. I just have to make the time to do them. I don't work all that hard at the office (look at my thread posting times for proof) but I'm tired when I get home.

I got them from an Ebay seller out of Florida who evidently buys them from Suncoast when they're running a special and then waits until Suncoast is selling them for $1499 and he runs them for $1199... which is what I paid.

I had to swallow hard when I plunked down that cash, but I gotta tell you, it's the prettiest mod I have done to the car. My mechanic wired them up for me and they tilt up for brights and everything. Gorgeous looks from the front and I can definitely tell the difference while driving at night on dark roads. In the city it's not noticeable, but out in the country, it's a lot brighter.

I, too, have just replaced my headlights with the Porsche Litronic retorfit kit. I agree Randall that there is a huge difference in the quality of the light, as well as the look of the car w/o the amber. What did you do with your original headlights, or are you holding onto them to switch back before you sell? I think I will sell my halogens (with Silverstars).

Lookin good Randall, lookin good....Black would have been one of my top choices for color, no doubt! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I like the clears, but I am old school I guess..... I prefer to do as little mods as possible wanting to keep it mostly stock. I actually bought the clear corners and was going to deamber, but I changed my mind, going back to the original look.....Having brighter lights is a good thing as far as night vision goes tho. $1200 would be a bit steep for me at this juncture even if I chose to go that route........The rims are pretty unique, don't think I've seen those on a Box before....

How much do you think you've sunk into her for mods or upgrades?

New seats and three spoke steering wheel totally transform an old interior.
The new top also keeps it looking current. Nothing worse than seeing a nicely waxed Porsche with a dingy ratty looking top.
Try painting the calipers really makes a big difference. and dress those tires!

No offense, but I totally agree. Randall, you're my brother, so it is with love that I tell you "let's update those rims first things first!"

Remember those chrome Carrera's you liked? I hear them calling your name.

RandallNeighbour 04-10-2006 02:42 PM

Oh Jeph, you have no idea how much I wanted to do that instead of buy new 17 inch rubber for those Camaro rims...

But like I posted in another thread, the wife has it in her head to renovate the front part of our 105 year old home near downtown Houston and she hasn't a clue as to what trim carpentry costs these days and the price of wood!

I am afraid that I must "donate" at least a couple of grand in my Porsche fund to the wife's "make the front room look pretty" fund.

A happy wife is a happy life. Or, when Momma ain't happy, nobody's happy!

One day you'll get married and fully understand these statements.

New rims and a new top will have to be done in 2007 the way I see my extra cash coming in. I can live with what I have now... the car's in great shape and driving really well... I type this with crossed fingers, hoping not to jinx anything.
