New 2003 Boxster basic

http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1394297813.jpg

I just purchased a 2003 Boxster with 51,000 miles in Guards Red with a black interior with Bose stereo and 18" Carrera five-spoke wheels. The way this car drives is phenomenal. I've had a number of 50's, 60's and 70's British roadsters over the years and there's no comparison. "Cowl shake"? The British cars would shake and rattle as they rolled down the road, the Porsche is rock solid. I'm going to start an argument, but the "basic's" performance - 0-60 in sixish seconds and 150+ mph is entirely adequate for any sane, responsible driver on public roads. I enjoy a spirited drive along a curvy, mountain road, but burnouts and bouts on the race track? No. I traded in a 2003 Audi TT quatro with a 1.8 turbo. By the numbers, the Audi and Porsche are very close in acceleration and top speed, but while the Audi is a good car the Porsche is a great car - no torque steer, turbo lag and when the rain isn't falling here North of Seattle, NO TOP! T

Nice car, totally agree on your assessment. Have fun and be sane (hard to always do in these nice machines)!;)

Excellent choice... Glass window, glove box, better interior components. Two thumbs up!

It it $50,000 better?

Before I drove off in my new/used Porsche I walked over to a new, 2014 Boxster with the same color scheme and checked out the window sticker. I told my salesman that the 2014 was definitely the better car then asked the question: But is it $50,000 better?

Loans, car payments, insurance, worry, etc. I'm happy with my 2003!

Welcome - great looking 986!

I too grew up driving and racing British ...TR6 & MG ... then drove BMW and Audi TT 225Q for 12 years before I found my S!!

I agree with your assessment ... enjoy your new ride!!

Congrats on a great looking Boxster! I would love to have a 2014 too, but the reality is, my 2001 makes me smile every time I see it and grin every time I drive it! Even better, it's paid for! Something I would not be able to say about a new one! I still love the looks of the original, classic lines:)
