Finally got a hard top

After years of searching, I finally located a hard top for our project car. I purchased the Glacier White top from Joe Shmoo (forum member) last weekend.

As you can see, Glacier White didn't match Cararra white too well.

So I stripped the top down within minutes of bringing it home and off to the body shop it went.

In less than a week, they smoothed out a couple of small dents and color matched the top to perfection.

I have some new seals and a headliner pad on order from the factory which should come in 2-4 weeks. Until then, I'll let the paint cure some more and get it ready for the brutal California winters (sarcasm :p)

Cheers

Mark

Your car looks great with the hardtop.

Just a question:
Why do people get a hard top? Do you not like the convertible?

soucorp 06-05-2013 03:11 AM

I'm not a big fan of the OEM Porsche Boxster Hardtop if I'm honest. Makes the car look like its wearing a helmet and screws up the lines. However, if I got tired of the convertible appeal or need shelter from the CA winter -right then, I would have to get the Z-top design, makes it look like a Cayman. Not sure if these guys are in business anymore but its still a very sort after product today. The company also makes the upgraded side vents 986 ---> 987 look.

discussed on this thread:

Nice looking car AppleGuy!
Very clean and simple!
Is it lowered?
What kind of sides are those?

Appleguy 06-07-2013 07:23 AM

SF-Rockster the car is lowered on H&R springs. The car also has the factory Aero II Kit minus the wing (I took it off recently).

Crono0001 I got the hard top to have the best of both worlds. I love the convertible aspect of the car and now I have the look of a coupe as well.

Soucorp in my eye, the hardtop actually accents the flow of the body lines. If I wanted a Cayman (or wanted my car to look like one) I'd just buy a cayman. The nice thing about the factory top is that it's easy to remove within minutes and voila the convertible is back. The Z top takes a lot more effort to remove and install and from my understanding the fittment is very challenging.

Com3dorm3 thanks for the comments!

Hey, Appleguy,

Can I get some advice on how to strip down the top? The left side interior plastic trim strip on my heart top has come loose at the front, but I can't figure out where the fastener is to tighten it down again. It's presumably under the trim strip, where I can't see it. I figure I'm going to have to take the whole thing off, but I am leery of just grabbing it and tugging until it all comes loose.

Is that the right way to do it, or is there another trick? How are the trim strips on either side fastened? Will I be able to replace only the fastener, or will I have to buy a complete strip? Many thanks for your help!

silver-S: PM me with your email address. I've got a pdf file for assembly/disassembly of the hard top I can send you.

Was very lucky. My new to me Box came with the factory hard top.

One great advantage is the huge back window compared to the convertibles.
