Painted my Brake Calipers

Painted my brake calipers yesterday with some caliper paint form AutoZone.
About 30 mins per wheel...putting on 4 coats of paint which dries very fast.
Now just waiting on some white porsche decals to stick on front. Very please with results. Cost about $10 for paint and decalshttp://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1346335195.jpg

Did you sand it down first before paint? If not don't expect the paint to last.

BruceH 08-30-2012 07:26 AM

Looks great! It's on my list of things to do. My red paint is faded and needs to be refreshed.

WhipE350 08-30-2012 11:19 AM

If found a guy that sells the PORSCHE stickers for like $8 for seven of them. I then clear coated it with clear engine paint.

Skrapmot 08-30-2012 12:09 PM

I think Pelican sells a brush on caliper paint so no need to mask off your entire car.
Are the letters raised? I thought my old 911 letters were raised when I painted those brake calipers long ago.

Agree with the above, did mine a year ago and they still look the same today.
This wire brush came in very handy.

Bought the heat resistant caliper paint off eBay.

And I think they look as good today as the day I did them.

This is the latest photo I've taken and it shows my re-furbed wheels, I just noticed the OP they are the same style, I also painted the badge on the center caps not that you would notice unless it was pointed out.

As you can see they are still looking good so well worth the time taken rubbing down and preparing the surface before painting.

Skrapmot 08-30-2012 09:01 PM

That look really good....hmmm...do I really need another project right now...

I really like those black wheels on the yellow Boxster!

The Egg Guy 08-31-2012 09:58 AM

I did "rough them up" a little before painting...but not a complete sanding.
I would have loved some brush on paint but my local parts store didn't have any and I had been wanting to do this for a while so I just went with what they had.

My letters are not raised. The yellow one looks nice. Much better than mine. nice job.

Guvs 09-01-2012 11:24 PM

Thanks for all your positive comments, it makes all the time and effort put in a bit more acceptable and worthwhile.
Guvs.

Great job! My calipers are also painted and I love the look. Its a great way to make the wheels visually pop.

986_c6 09-08-2012 10:53 PM

This reminds me to get off my butt and start my caliper painting project.

Great job op!

Jerkstore 09-24-2012 11:09 AM

The best pain to use on calipers is high heat engine paint. It has a picture of an engine on it.
The high heat engine paint results are outstanding. It actually will look like a shell of paint and it is really easy to apply.

put decals on painted calipers

Finally put my PORSCHE decals on my newly painted calipers.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1349708208.jpg

Egg Guy:
Where did you get the decals from? What size were they?
Thanks
T

Skrapmot 10-08-2012 08:19 AM

I got mine on eBay, I picked the ones that advertised they were heat resistant, and threw in a couple extras for good
luck for about 8 dollars shipped.
I also found the brush on caliper paint kit on Amazon for 20 bucks.

The Egg Guy 10-12-2012 06:30 AM

Yeah, I got mine on ebay also...very inexpensive. About $5 and when I contacted seller that I had not received them yet he sent another set of decals. And the paint is Caliper paint form autozone

mistermac99 10-13-2012 04:36 PM

I have a base '99. I think I was reading in the Bently Service Manual that only the Boxster S came painted red.
Seems I should paint my calipers black, or keep them silver?
My car is silver.

Mine are going red...

boxslrr 10-15-2012 06:32 PM

Any idea what color I should paint mine? Car is Guards Red with a black top. I want something that people will notice and something that matches the colors of the car. But I feel like everyone does red. Any suggestions?

WhipE350 10-15-2012 06:54 PM

White and Red always go well together :) . Use the VHT though, it drive faster and sprays on better. I topped mine off over the decal with a clear engine paint...the gloss looks awesome.

Skrapmot 10-15-2012 06:56 PM

Red is a classic brembo color on Porsches, I'd stick with red unless you have ceramic brakes or a yellow car.
You could try a dark red for a change.

Skrapmot 10-15-2012 06:59 PM

Don't you want your brakes to look like these?

High performance drums!

Skrapmot 10-15-2012 07:06 PM

Or you could go yellow like this guy...

Reviving a super old thread here as I'm feeling impatient about adding some color to the calipers. What do you guys do about the PORSCHE lettering that is already on the stock calipers? Spray over them or do you use something to peel those off?

particlewave 03-18-2019 06:36 PM

It doesn't peel off. Just paint over it, then add decals before the clear coat.

Get crazy with it
