Tonneau Cover

I see lots of really nice Porsches with Tonneau covers. However, I do believe getting a tonneau cover takes away the ability to put the top up (which, to me is very important). Is this true?

top up Tonneau

yes it does, however once you get used to it its pretty easy. Usually I dont put them on unless I am sure that it wont be a day it goes up and down. I can tell you it looks like a different car with them. (spyderish). Also I dont always attach the velcro staps always which make the process MUCH faster. The spin in for the top can be a little tricky as well as costly for such a small part 40 each plus....

Dose anybody have a photo of this Tonneau cover ?

@nnewell - that's the one that I'm actually looking for in the past but can't find one that won't break my bank.

Do you mind telling where did you get them? :)

btw: i love the color of your car

nnewell 05-22-2012 04:53 AM

The cover came with the car. I think the po had it made up. I don't use a wind deflector
( don't see the point of driving a convertable and trying to stop the breeze ) and that makes the cover easier to install.
Top down, cover open only on the driver's side and heat cranked up & you can drive in some pretty cold weather and still be comfortable.

That doesn't look like the factory cover which looks like this. I'd love to get one except the wind deflectors need to be removed and it can get annoying if you drive on the highway a lot.

Those are not a "tonneau cover", they are Speedster Humps.

Regards, Maurice.

Crono0001 05-22-2012 04:10 PM

Apologies.

Do the speedster humps forbid putting the top up and down?

RandallNeighbour 05-22-2012 04:36 PM

You have to remove the humps to raise the top. I have them and love the look, but they're a pain.

Crono0001 05-22-2012 09:45 PM

After removing the humps, do you put them back on after the top is up, or do you simply store them in the front/trunk?

How long does it take to attach/detach?

BoxsterSteve 05-23-2012 12:50 AM

They have to be removed to operate the roof. Mine have storage bags, one per. They nest together nicely but nearly fill the rear trunk.

They take less than 2 minutes to remove. Installing takes a bit longer as mine have velcro straps at forward edge to secure to lower rollbar.

If your car doesn't have spinlocks installed, that needs to be done first.

RandallNeighbour 05-23-2012 03:26 AM

Mine are aftermarket units that don't use the spinlocks, just Velcro to secure it to the rollbar between the seats in the front and it latches under the clamshell at the back.
