Hail damage

Has anyone had this happen before? Reflectors popped out of both lights due to hail and wind.
Hail:

Dimpled hood and trunk now. Hard to see in this photo, but easy to tell in person:

Wow. That sucks. Now maybe the time to pick out your favorite color.

Damn, that is truly a pain to see. :ah: Always my nightmare during tornado season a hail storm will come to dent the car.

ekam 04-24-2012 05:24 PM

Hope your insurance will cover it, dents can be taken out by dent repair places easily but it's very very labor intensive...

I was driving in a rain/hail snow followed by a snow storm this passed weekend. Luckily, the hail was not that big, but I did notice a new paint chip.

The Reflectors are very fragile. Mine are very loose and anyone can easily pull them off. I put tape on the other side to help it stay in place.

My car got beat up real badly last year. Luckily my insurance covered it, I didn't pay a dime on the 2500 bill. All paintless repair, even got a few door pings done with the deal.

mine got caught in hail early in its life, there are about 2 dimples on the rear trunk lid still, rest were able to be fixed

First estimate.... $2138.

Yikes!!! Sorry to hear and that was definitely a vicious storm.

Hope your insurance will pick up the tab.

that's rough! i feel your pain, i was in a hail storm last year and got a couple of big pops, but not the multiple dimples. there was nothing i could do but sit there and listen and watch as the car got pummeled.

as far as the triangles, they're really just held in place with pressure from the tabs pushing in different directions. i got tired of accidentally popping mine off (when washing or just handling the lights) so i ended up putting a small amount of super glue along the edge before putting them back in. 2 years and so far they have not popped off again.

If you get reimbursement from your insurance company, they'll put a claim against the VIN number on the car. Then if you try to sell the car, the carfax will show hail damage and good luck selling that car at that point.

+1

Many people forget about that component

So what? He paid for the insurance, he should use it, or stop paying for it. If a buyer whines about the carfax, ask them to point out where they see the damage. If they can't find it, then it never happened and they should STFU.

Should but it doesn't work that way. I bought a truck that had a small accident showing on car fax. Thought I was stuck with it forever. Car lots wanted to take a couple grand for that even though the damage was fixed.

I just walked away from a truck due to a car fax blemish.

If I saw a carfax that showed "accident," I would definitely discount the price compared to one that didn't show one. That is just the way it is.

SoK 05-15-2012 09:18 AM

hail damage and "accident" are 2 totally different things.

my car had hail damage and on carfax it is listed as "natural disaster" and dealers wont give me crap for it and most people walked when they saw the carfax, I am basically stuck with my S without giving it away. Time to make it a track terror!
