Painted intake grills

I got bored today so I thought I'd try something that I've been interested in doing for a while. So I yanked off my intake grills, degreased/cleaned, lightly sanded them, and shot them with a base coat of Carrara white. I'm letting them dry overnight and will clear them tomorrow.

Cheers

Mark

Mark - Cool...nice idea. Look forward to pics of them in the car. I was thinking of doing mine two, couldn't decide on the color though. The grills on the front bumper are silver on mine so may that would work.

I've done this to my intakes on my 2001 Boxster S in arctic silver. I little wet sanding of the clear coat with 2000 grit and then polishing compound...

Hey Andrew

What did you do on the drivers side vent since the bottom two slats are connected to each other as a solid piece. Did you just leave it as one solid color or did you paint the areas in between black? Do you have any photos?

I haven't decided on what I want to do about it just yet.

I did my 3rd and final base coat tonight and I'll probably let them sit for a day or so before I clear them

Cheers

Mark

Mark -

Since my girl is arctic silver and I decided to paint the grills arctic silver as well. It became an easy decision to just paint that one dual-piece all the same color. It went with the theme I have of making as much silver as possible and removing all gold.

A short list -
Chrome silver, black and red crest on my steering wheel;
Chrome silver, black and red hood emblem;
Chrome Boxster S badge on the rear;
Chrome silver and back center caps (yes, I sold my colored embossed versions just to get rid of the gold).

Good luck with the final finishing and post pictures when you are done.

Andrew

I decided to cut mine since the Carrara white made it way too odd looking and, in my opinion, it just didn't look right. So I took out the Dremel and went to town on it. I took my time and it took me about 2 hours but I like the results. I got it to match up identically to the other side as well.

I still left the lower portion attached to the frame. If that bugs me, I'll hit that as well with the Dremel.

Cheers

Mark

Nice idea! I think it's going to look great. That chunky piece has always bugged me. You've got me curious.

Whip, thanks.

Ok, the piece below bugged me. I took the dremel to it tonight and I think it looks much better now. I'll install these back on the car this weekend.

Cheers

Nice work, Mark. And good spelling (most people miss-spell Carrara White).

Carrara White is a great color. I had my side vents done by Bumperplugs, even prior to taking delivery back in 2006.:

Thanks guys. I installed them today and am happy with the results. I think the color matched grills finish off "the black hole".

Cheers

appleguy, another pic from farther back please. I really like the look close up but would like to see whole side. I might have this done.

Here you go. The best I could do as it's been raining on and off here and I didnt want to pull it out of the garage for two photos. I think it finishes off the grill area nicely (but then again, i'm biased ) I just realized you can barely make out my red calipers...I need a better camera!!!

Cheers

Mark

Well it looks like the dremel is going to make an appearance to the driver's side. Looks great!

Wing, front bumper and rocker covers = Aerokit II.

Now you have me looking at the black hole and saying "hmmm..."
