Pics of tracked/beat up Boxster before the transformation

Hey guys, this is the first forum that I have ever posted pics, thanks to the easy "attachment" thing avail.

So, here it is. 02 Boxster Base, triple grey, owned new since. 75k miles, with ~12k hard tracked miles (includes to/from track).

Mods: B & B exhaust, AFe intake, chipped (forgot who), B & M short shifter, H & R springs with stock Bilsteins or Sachs (cannot remember), 18" rims, ATe blue with SS brake lines.

Just received body kit and converting the car to nice street car (no more track days on this baby!!!!)

So is the Z06 a new addition that is replacing the Boxster as track tool, or, have you been using both at the track?

986_c6 12-20-2011 08:07 PM

Actually, I had a white 06 c6 that was doing double track duties with the Boxster.

Have had the Z06 for 2 years now and I really don't see the point in tracking the Boxster anymore.

Sweet track car and it should make even a better street car! Can't wait to see the transformation! Make sure you take LOTS of photos and keep us posted!

What are the plans for the rims? Keeping the track ones or doing something else?

Cheers

Mark

Back left tire looks low on air. Check it before you tear a sidewall and have a blowout.

My Maserati does 185....

Nice looking 986! I think Seal Grey is a great color. I too am looking forward to seeing your project progress.

That's a nice stable you have there. Now that you are posting pics, I would love to see some of the Maseratis and the ZO6 (and the white C6) if you have any.

Thanks

That's a beauty!

Hey Mark, your car/project is part of the inspiration, and along with my brother that just said..."dude, just stop abusing it and treat it nice for once!" (he was with me at Infineon when the Boxster gave up, ps leak/failure).

The track rims are supposed to be the "nice" set, but I started using them because tire scrubs are much easier to find in the 18" than oe 17". What do you think? Keep the rims silver, or paint them seal grey?

ddb: I am getting really excited with the "build." First body kit ever...I am usu one to believe the cars are designed with the utmost elegance and beauty in its original form (except for the oe wheels, of course).

Which Maser do you have? At 185mph, GTS Quattroporte or S Gran Turismo is my guess.

986_c6,

I only wish I had a Maserati that does 185 (or even a slower one). That came from an old Joe Walsh lyric from a song named "Life's Been Good". The lyric goes: "My Maserati does 185 - I lost my license - now I don't drive". Whenever I see or read something about a Maserati I think about that song.

Lol! I have heard of corvette, bentley, range rover songs, but not a Maserati song. Cool.

Thanks...another thought was to go all out crazy and paint the rims royal blue (think XKRS) actually, I have had a long day, I should keep it in silver.

sgt brad 12-22-2011 06:35 AM

what are the wheels? they look easy to clean and i like the offset. i have a seal grey s and am after seeing your's with the grey top i'm considering grey as a replacement color. thanks for the post.

brad

OOPS FOUND YOUR OTHER POST LISTING THEM AS BSA WHEELS. SORRY.

986_c6 12-22-2011 09:13 PM

Sgt Brad: Uh, oh...sounds like a clone or twin in the making. j/k!

I have always loved the uniqueness of the triple grey! Would be cool to have similar cars, esp since you are in Alabama  Whats the weather like over there?

sgt brad 12-24-2011 07:36 AM

it would be funny to have boxster twins, but alas i have a black interior. i just happened to like the grey over seal grey paint. i'll have to chew on it a bit. it seems to take away a bit of the stark transition from black to grey. the boxster top isn't the prettiest shape ever. anything that minimizes it visually is ok with me.

we have A LOT of rain here in alabama so i'll be driving it a fair amount with the top up. temps are fairly mild. 40-50's now. we'll have a cold snap every now and again, but rarely does it ever stay in the teens for more than 1-2 days. snow here is a novelty.

if possible i'd like to see more pics of your box. just research ya know ;).

Sgt Brad: Glad to hear you are one to drive your nice cars in the rain...it really bothers me that some folks don't.

I don't have too many pics of the car besides the two posted...my opinion is to do the grey top, it really does set it apart from other convertibles and adds the "uniqueness." I will be posting update photos of the car in the near future though after some more parts go in.

Merrry Christmas everyone!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
I like that gray top. Have a seal gray S

How do you keep it so clean ?? I have black , needs replacing some time soon.
My concern would be how to keep it clean.

Any ideas ?

just my 2 cents.

cheers , happy driving to ALL in the New Year and always.

Because I have been tracking it a lot over the years, I really haven't been taking good care of the top. If you look closely, it has a little yellowing effect on the gray, but I was told by my local Porsche dealer service manager to use Simple Green and it would clean it right up. I tried it once and it did the trick, but not washing it for 4-6 months and tons of track time doesn't help it.

If you start with a brand new grey top, then it really isn't that difficult to keep new; just the usual washes.
