Love the look of my new magnetic stone guards on my 03 986...

nice .. is that custom ?

Good place for race number instead of on the door.

I purchased them from Magnagrafik. This is version 2 of their 986 stoneguard. They were about $85, and the script can be custom. Dan there has been very helpful and very flexible in what they can do.

I like it because it looks edgy and the Porsche lettering on the side gives it a custom appearance.

Don't think you want to leave it there for long since dirt can get in and it literally becomes a scratch magnet. I don't think that's a spot where you'll get stone chips anyway.

Ummmm why is it called a "Stone Guard"? Unless you spend a lot of time in reverse, not many rocks, or stones(....), are going to hit right there :P

I have to agree to a point. The 986 didn't have the hip flares that the 987 got where such a protection makes sense. I can, however, imagine that it would see good use for track days and AXs, should any debris get kicked up or you clip a cone with the rear quarter of the car. Not likely to happen often to most people, but it'll sure come in handy that one time you need it and it's there...kinda like your insurance.

If your reason for getting them is for those times that you'll be on a track and you're one of those that goes fairly often, I think it's a worthwhile investment, looking at it from a stance of function over appearance.

I got mine for the appearance, not for any "stone guard" effect. It gives the Boxster an edgier appearance IMHO. Compared with the 987, the 986 side vents look tame, and these give it a bit of a racier look. I love it.

How about a better complete side shot?

WhipE350 11-15-2011 05:44 PM

Hey Ron, I like it. Nice it can just be pulled off during cleaning. I think it might be even cooler if the top right corner were rounded to a point on the left top corner. It's creative, enjoy it!

Good find. Ordering these next spring for AX cone protection.
