Exclamation Bonneville!!!! That's speedweek, Salt Flats....cooool! And long....

So today me and my buddy took a trip to Bonneville, it is only 1.5 to 2 hrs from our homes. We started at 7 am and got their with no troubles at all. 15 bucks each to get in but well worth it! Driving on the salt is much like driving on a snowpack with wintertires, just warmer (dooh!! . Can't believe driving 300 or 400 mls/hr on this! When the racers built speed they did it carefully(!), - wheelspinn/traction. BTW, we did too! Spinning wheels in 3rd at 5,500 rpm is fun!

So much fun!

On to the action, lady at the checkpoint told us "go 5 miles straight to the start", that's what we did just to get busted by the guards to "not go there!", we were heading towards the return point. Past the main spectator area which is about 1/2 mile away from one of the 2 tracks which were set up. From there and with binoculars nice views and good watching the runs.

Ok, back to the starting / staging area, this is were the action is! Very laid back, very relaxed, tons of ONLY nice people, talk to drivers, talk gasoline, look at these machines...... even the helpers/organizers/guards are supercool and nice. Remember the guard who pulled us over? Supernice! Explained and talked like a non-jerk... beat that!
Well, talking about getting busted, of course we did some donuts just to be busted again and again no trouble.

The Boxster had a good time, too!

On to a few pics:-

Sounds like fun. Make sure you wash and scrub all that salt off, you'll end up finding corrosion pitting

Thanks! Salt is already off, like 2" in the wheelwells and everywhere else (dust!). A good bath took care of this.

Few more pics:-

Cool Thanks for first hand report as I've always wanted to go. Might have to move it up a few spots on the old bucket list.
