Retro-Fitted! It was a dual row

Finally did the IMS bearing LN retro-fit. It was a dual row bearing

Garage
So what did your old bearing look like? Did you do it yourself? Did you have the LN IMS removal tools? What was the cost of the bearing?

As you can see the bearing was in great shape. The seals were intact; no visible problems. It did seem to have a lot of drag on it though; perhaps that is the nature of this sealed bearing but it did feel odd. I didn't do it myself and the price of the kit was marked up by the installer of course.

I was glad that I had a dual row which means I have got a strong dual row hybrid in there now.

Many of the bearings changed out are fine it seems. At the time I was in there was a fellow who's bearing was just failing and sprinkles of metal in his fliter. I think he barely got away with the retro fit. I have never heard of anything so close. Time will tell whether he is in the clear.

I had my double row replaced at about 40,000 and it looked good and had no obvious wear from turning the bearing. It was still tight and didn't feel pitted or like it had any grinding. The seal was obviously compromised though, it was bleeding Royal Purple for a day or two.

LN Eng. has list of places on their site that do the operation. You could pick one that is close to you, or do some traveling to go to who you feel comfortable with. Even Downtown Porsche does it now. I think their price was $2200 and I am not sure what that includes. I did mine at Mantis for $2400. This included: RMS, fly wheel bolts, oil and filter, and a general inspection. My clutch was like new so it was not replaced. This will come down to driving style; I blip the throttle on downshifts (heel toe) so there is a lot less wear than normal.

Keep in mind that they will all mark up the cost of the kit.

J
