trailer hitch
saw this at Carolina Motorsports Park this past weekend. don't know exactly how it was attached - looked like it pulled a small tire trailer.

I looked into something similar for my daily bicycle habit. THe maker of one bike tray said to absolutely NOT use this sort of thing. He pointed out that the tongue weight of two bikes and the bike tray easily outweighe the maximum alloted by most of these bumper bolted hitch mounts. The hitch needs to be bolted to the car from the frame underneath some how.
So basically forget about hooking this up to a tire tail. I decided to go with this set up ($400) http://birdautomotive.com/XrackRear-2.jpg |
Those are the bumperette attachments that it is bolted to. Here's a photo of them on my car with nothing attached: http://986forum.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=61&stc=1

Bird Automotive Rack
I've been considering bike racks and am leaning toward the Bird Automotive Rack that Perfect Lap aluded to. However, I'm wondering how I could possibly get my surfboard to fit. I may be doomed to the top restrictions and noise of the RTS.

There are about 3 companies that did/do make a hitch. Never seen one like that so I bet it is a one off or something new.
