One of the best looking wheels ever
I like the way they look with the car lowered. I need to lower mine.
|
agreed. the lowered stance finishes the look perfectly. I didn't want to spend more money on suspension (got the pss9) but now i have no regrets, except when i look at my bank account!

Thumper, or you could add sideskirting instead of lowering.
Makes the car look lower by eliminating that empty space under the doors. These are 18" wheels by the way. Bigger rubber also helps. (245F & 275R) http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...15_54_full.jpg |
I have actually thought about doing that very thing, as I do worry about damaging the undercarriage or front bumper if I lower it. The guys at RUF have been trying to talk me into lowering the car, but I'm still not convinced.
|
Yep, IMO, the best exterior mod for the price.
Here's a red one with the skirting http://www.986host.com/albums/RayS/IMG_3005.sized.jpg I personally think lowering the car without a full coil over kit is not right for me. The inability to adjust ride height seems inappropriate for such an expensive car. If you aren't in love with your new ride quality its an expensive 'undoing'. Besides bigger fatter rubber , as well as filling up the wheel well nicely, will only improve your car's performance |
i agree with sticking with full coilovers if you're going to lower the car. i wanted to cheap out and just do springs, but i'm so glad i didn't. The ride with the pss9 is great. my fiancee commented that it actually feels more smooth than stock, although i'm not sure i agree. rebound is way quicker, and handling is night and day. if you thought the boxster handled well before (like i did) the pss9 makes it seem like i use to drive a truck and now it's a oversized go-kart. it could have a little to do with the slightly different tires. before it was michelin pilot sport, now it's pilot sport xs or something like that, although the current tires only have about 30% tread left. i've also got the suspension on the middle dampening setting so i think the it's suitable for most people as you can go softer if you so desire. definitely worth the extra bones and can't wait to take her to the track or autocross.
and oh yeah, at the current ride height, i've had no problems with clearance. the back is set to the lowest and the front could go a couple inches lower. although if you have a body kit, you'd probably have to be extra careful,or set the rideheight higher. |

Great looking car! I love the color combination! The wheels look great. Have you ever considered painted bumperettes? ddb http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...51_20_full.jpg |

My buddy's........................................... .......
Boxster on 19" rims.
|
how is the ride quality and handling with 19's?
|
The ride quality is better than I thought.............
Actually btwn my Box w/ 18's and his w/ 19's I didn't find it harsher like everyone states. I think my buddy is running Eibach Springs on 19's. Def. 10/10 for looks. One thing to mention is his Boxster is mainly a show/competition car. I take mine for rips on a regular basis,so the 18's suit me just fine for ride quality.
|
What size tires are on those 18's? My pal who had a BoxsterS and now has a GT3 for track use recommended that the Boxster on 18's run 245 front tires 275 rear for maximum grip. Fills up the wheel well perfectly.
|
Hey PerfectLap.....................................
My 18's are 225/40 front and 265/35 rear. Much better grip than the 17's I had. I think there are a number of posts on PPBB re: this issue with size. Not sure if 245's on the front will stick out or not. I def. didn't want them to stick out past the wheel well as I have another buddy who went big on the front and head it sticks out. I would take a look at your buddy's ride and see if you like the look. To each is his/her own. Don't forget to add a 1" drop on H&R's or Eibach's to finish your ride off if you haven't done it already.
