Painted Calipers Yellow
Hi all -
Here are some pics from my DIY project for this weekend. Painted my calipers in yellow with black decals. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice before I started. I really love the way the yellow stands out against the black. I just wanted to be different I guess ... as the mantra of our forum goes "to each their own", right? |
Per commonly held 986forum belief: too close to amber...it's gotta go. Right??
(I like it.) |
Nice work!

can you go thru the steps of exactly how you did it..i want to change my calipers to red and change my wheeel centers also.
|
impressive
I was not sure how I was going to feel about the yellow calipers, but you did a great job, and I think it looks teriffic - nicely done.

nice
It's look really good. Some things you can do with a black car that you can't with a blue one like mine. Yellow would be a no on mine...but red?...

Thank you for the compliments. It is really nice to hear after all that hard work.
__________________________ @ Manaco986 - Here is my '5-Step-Painting-Process' Step 1: Purchase kit and decals of your choice. I went with Duolicolor because it came with the caliper cleaner, brush, and tape. (though I got extra of brushes and tape). From what I read on here it seemed like a crap-shoot. If I were to do it again I might choose another company as the paint was very thin and took a LOT of coats to get to my obsessive-comuplsive standard. Keep in mind I had a friend to help me with the task. Step 2: Put on jack stands & remove wheels and clean calipers with caliper cleaner. Make sure you spend a lot of time on this. Step 3: Tape off everything you don't want painted. Step 4: Paint calipers using multiple coats giving plenty of time to dry. I also had a hair dryer to help speed up the process. Step 5: Let dry overnight & apply decals. Be very careful while applying these. ___________________________ @ ElStevano I think red would look nice against the blue. Fresh black would probably look nice also if yours are looking old and tired. Thanks again guys - |
VERY nice, but i cant say more couse mine are yellow too :)

I love it!! Great way to have that $20,000 option "Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake System (PCCB)" look for the cost of a can of Krylon! You Rock!!

To be honest, if I had the $ & time to take off all of the calipers and have them powder coated I would have. As far as durability goes, I've heard of the paint from kits lasting 5+ years ... so I went that route for now.
When the car isn't my d.d. I will definitely have them powder coated, though. I am sure the results are even better. |
