My 1st Porsche 99-Boxster

I just purchased my 99 Boxster about two month ago and a lot of people had told me that 97 to 99 have a lot of problem with the motor and I'm very worry about my car. My car just turn 61000 miles. Does any body heard anything about the motor problem? Your answer will help me a lot. Thanks for your time.

like any and every other mfg, Porsche has had some motor issues. They (PAG or PCNA) won't release statistics so no one, regardless of what you here/read anywhere else, knows exactly how many, where, why, how, blah, blah, blah. Suffice to say, if it were "rampant", I'm sure the NHSTA, FTC would have launched an investigation a long time ago. Or even the "good" senator from PA would investigate - of course that's after he's finished reviewing all the NFL Patriot tapes :D .

Anyhow, most of the issues I've read/heard about happened early in the life and those w/ motors 40K+ seem to be in the "clear". Having said that, my '99 just hit 30K and other than the first few weeks of ownership, I gave up worrying about it a long time ago. Relax and enjoy the car and all of it's capabilities b/c it's tough to smile when you're constantly worried about it. Remember this quote.......

"If the biggest thing you have to worry about is a bum motor in your Porsche, then you really have nothing to worry about at all."

Congrats, enjoy your new ride and make sure you post a pic of it soon :)

I am also interested in these "stories" -- though I have been told that if your car makes it to 100k then you are safe...

Congrats and Welcome

Congrats on your purchase. I think you should be ok with that mileage, but I am sure some of the resident experts here will chime in with their advice. I lurked for a long time before posting and there is some excellent advice dispensed here.

I currently have two boxsters (97 & 2000 S) and never had a problem. I tracked, autocross, etc..
As per my Porsche mechanic at my local P dealership "boxster is very reliable" Don't worry and go enjoy!

With 60K, don't you have to replace the belt?

What's that cost, anyway? Mine has 56 right now, so by fall!
