				Painted my calipers

With the help of my pal, Maurice in Long Island (who also has a 986), I used the G2 Caliper Paint Kit to paint my calipers red last weekend. We did the whole job in one day, including slapping on the Porsche decals and putting on 2 coats of clear coat over them. Took a total of 8 hours to prep and clean off the calipers in preparation to paint, paint, and then allow it to cure long enough to put on the decals and clearcoat.
Props to djolmas who gave me the tip of cutting a hole through a trash bag to pull over the caliper, in order to mask off areas that you don't want to paint. It allowed us to paint each caliper without having to take them off the rotors.

Now to the pics:

Car on jacks with the grungy old looking calipers:

Using djolmas' trash bag tip:

G2 paint brushed on:

Decals on:

The finished product. The G2 kit was easy to work with, and results were great!

Thanks man. We were quite surprised when we saw just how good it turned out. I was shocked that a $36 dollar paint kit could do such an amazing job. They actually look shinier than the factory red calipers.

Sure, this is the closest shot I have. The epoxy paint dries to a smooth, glossy finish, sorta like how women's nail polish does, so even if you see brush marks when you apply the paint, it ends up curing to a smooth finish.

Did you buy the Porsche decals from Xenonmods...

I bought a set a month ago, paid for them and never received them....

I have sent 4 emails at this point. If you bought them elsewhere, can you

 let me know where.

 Nice job!

Thx. I purchased them from ebay, and they were delivered within a week. Seller is ohvdecals. No affiliation.

Looks great. I did the same on my car as well and am very happy with the result as well. I need to redo two of them though cause i wasn't careful when remounting my wheels and chipped the paint on the brakes. Be careful when remounting guys.
I also have an arctic silver and was wondering what colour to repaint my wheels. I love your 18in SSR GT3 Wheels. What colour combo is that? Did yuo have that custom painted? I wasnt so sure about gunmetal but it looks like that is what you did and I love it.

Thanks. Yeah, I used the wheel mounting bolt included in my car's tool kit (located behind the spare tire), to help me guide the wheels in the right place for mounting without hitting the calipers. It's a great tool, and is very cheap to buy at the dealer or Suncoast Porsche if you are missing the tool from your kit. Here's what I'm talking about : http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=P&Product_Code =99957107430&Category_Code=POTEBXWH
As for my wheels, they came painted the satin gunmetal color from the manufacturer, but I'm sure you can get any paint shop to paint your wheels like that. I think it looks great as a contrast to the silver paint of the car and the red calipers.

I think yellow would look great on your black car.

Thanks! I actually have that tool but never thought about using it when remounting my tires. I'll be sure to use it the next time I change my wheels.
I love the satin gunmetal colo nowr. I am convinced that is what I want when I find some time to bring my Kineses wheels in.
