I would check the remote turn on wire for the factory amp.

Hi Bry,

Is that a Porsche Boxster on your map screen? If so, how did you that?

Bry 09-27-2008 08:42 PM

Good catch! The Kenwood uses Garmin for their NAV functions, and recent Garmin GPS units allow you to replace the arrow with anything else - they even have a collection of replacements on their website.
It's not a documented function of the DNX-8120, but if you plug your laptop into the Mini B USB connection on the back, you can upload your own custom vehicles and set them as the displayed icon.

trieullionaire 09-28-2008 09:34 AM

Very nice custom touch! Thanks for the info, think I try to do it on mine if the option is available.

Check it out!

Hey guys,

New bezel for the 986/996 2 din kits. The new bezel has a factory textured finish. See the pics attached, most of the pics have the factory climate control bezel so you can compare the two.

Enjoy!

trieullionaire 07-24-2009 04:43 AM

Close up shot

Here is a close up shot of the textures from the cc bezel and the new 2 din bezel.

edevlin 07-24-2009 05:58 AM

Looks good, the shiny one I currently have from your kit looks a little out of place on the dash. Do we order them from your ebay site, if so, which one is it, thanks,

Ed

Thumper 07-24-2009 09:53 PM

I'd like one of the textured bezels myself.

funkdefino 07-25-2009 12:59 AM

Ok...

Metra 70-1784 - $10.00

Metra 70-1787 - $20.00

Antenna Adapter - $5.00

Pioneer ADT-VA133 - $35.00

Lower AC Surround Trim - $5.00

Porsche Radio Removal Tool - $5.00

I estimate miscellaneous parts (screws, wire nuts, heat shield, etc.) at $8.00

That would make Trieullionaire's custom bezel and mounting bracket - $90.00

Did I leave anything out?

funkdefino 07-26-2009 10:21 AM

Nothing?

I thought for sure I would either get thanked or beaten about the head, neck, and chest area for my last post.

S3adrag0n 07-26-2009 11:44 AM

Great job and good research! I bought mine from Trieullionaire for 60 bucks more. I have no regret and. I figure, he did the research and saved me some hassel of wiring and putting out a tut..... for that it's worth it. Now, don't forget shipping... some parts may be 5 bucks with a 7-10 bucks for shipping.

trieullionaire 07-28-2009 01:35 PM

Thanks guys

Thanks S3adragOn for the compliment.

Funkdefino, we're not allowed to do any of the aforementioned things...986 Forum posting rules won’t permit...Just kidding :) We're pretty nice guys actually, nerf foam ball maybe but nothing vicious! It’s all good, we don’t have anything against you bud. Actually, I think it's a fair sentiment you raise and so I want to objectively address it for a moment.

First, you did a good job pricing out the parts and I’m even impressed you provided links. But to be fair, if I were to take just the items you listed for $90, I would still not have a complete install but I would have additional shipping costs S3adragOn mentioned from several vendors (as many of these components assembled in our kits are unrelated and often not available through a single supplier).

The brief version of what your missing: Barring the caliper decal we include, what makes our kit a kit is the fabricated components. Each install, each kit fits the same way each time, every bend, every cut and every hole fits properly to make life easy for everyone...to achieve this requires our parts to be manufactured precisely which means engineering services (CAD drawings & revisions), tooling/setup, initial sample run, materials and short run production costs.
1. Rear Support Bracket (mounted to stock location)
2. Trim Setter, for height and depth of the install
3. Bezel (now made of aluminum) tumbled and powder coated in factory texture

The reality is, we really put out kits because we enjoy what we do and it's been very rewarding helping others with their installations. Do we make a bit on the kits, we do but there are lots of expenditures and logistics involved with putting the kits together. At the end of the day, it's an earned living but we get to do what we find fun and meaningful...so makes it all worthwhile! :)

Thanks,

Trieullionaire

A few photos 2001 911 Turbo Installed

Hey guys,

Here are a few photos we took today. It's from a local Tampa customer with a 911 Turbo. He had it installed by a friend in like two days, did a really good job.

Anyhow, this should give you an idea of what it looks like installed.

Cheers,

Trieullionaire

Some clarity on the cage sleeve

Going in reverse so it makes sense

trieullionaire 09-12-2009 07:13 PM

Read this first and then next post below it - then it make sense

Hi Guys,

A couple things I wanted to clear up and hopefully will make life much easier for folks who install our kits in the future. We've included a cage sleeve for quite a while now with our kits, and it is usually already slid onto the cage for buyers. I guess it would help to understand how it works right...as it is not in our DIY which was based on the very first install we did on my '00 Boxster.

The purpose of the cage sleeve is to create a lip on all sides of the cage (the sides, top and bottom). This lip stops the cage from falling through the factory opening, and sits flush to the factory opening. This effortlessly allows you to set the depth and height of the cage, so that you don't need to do any measuring like in the original DIY.

Anyhow, I have included some photos to show how everything comes together...in pictures of course! Just a little preface, this was my Saturday afternoon project converting the '00 Boxster radio surround area to the 03-04 version with the thin cup holder option. The install is complete and it looks awesome and I love my new cup holder, I just have to clean up my car and I'll have some pictures to show in the weeks to come.

Just wanted to chime in and say that I successfully got my D3 installed this weekend, thanks to Trieullionaire and Eurospeed. It looks great and really enhances the look of my interior.

Bry 12-03-2009 05:19 PM

trieullionaire,
I don't see any on ebay at the moment, but do you have the textured faceplate available on it's own? I'd like to upgrade from the old glossy one while my car is parked for the winter. Also, do you have a Boxster logo as well - so I can put the Boxster script sticker on top of the radio and Porsche on the bottom, or vice versa?

trieullionaire 12-04-2009 12:50 PM

PM Sent

Hey Bry I sent you a PM regarding how to purchase. Oh by the way, can you please note your year Boxster as well, as we have two different sizes depending on whether it is a 97-02 or an 03 - 04 Boxster.

Cheers,

Loi

Hey bud;

Just got your kit as a Christmas gift (hopefully it's the right size!), and now is the time for me to finally nail down which screen is going in my 99. I'd like some advice, if anyone wants to dish it!

I want GPS, Aux input (for my Android to play Pandora), and DVD playback. I don't need Bluetooth, iPhone compatibility, or a whole lot of bells and whistles. Any suggestions? The AVIC series seems like a bit of overkill; I'd also like some compatibility with the fit/finish of the car/factory gauge coloring.

Thanks folks!

Jon
