Cool, all I would need is the bracket and the heat shield. I'll make a new faceplate with the vinyl I've got left over from my current one.

That's a pretty neat idea to put the kit together for Boxster owners. The AVIC is a pretty straight-forward install and looks great in 986s. I hope your brother does well in his venture.

Happy Easter to you too.

Really looking forward to your PDF files. Thank you for working on them and sharing with 986 owners. Also looking forward to this kit that may be for sale.

Thanks

Chills,

Here are images of the kit (2-Din housing & brackets, Porsche 986 wire harnesses, antenna adapter, radio removal keys, screws, wire nuts, custom support bracket, heat shield, fascia or faceplate). It will definitely be nice for those that haven't done the install yet to use a kit with photo directions. My brother has his hands in a lot of projects to keep him busy, but he was happy to help me with out with this project.

The photo instructions is almost completed, just trying to put as much pertinent info on there as possible. I will post it tomorrow if I can, depends on how late I work tonight.

I am so going to buy this when it comes out on ebay.
does it work with the factory CDC changer and AMP?

The kit will be on Ebay today but no later than tomorrow is what I was told. My brother is low on the quantity of the faceplates & custom support brackets but has some on order again. He wasn't really anticipating selling more than 100 of these.

Chills 03-25-2008 06:22 AM

Very cool kit, Tri.

So how much for just the bracket and the heat shield? And I must say the faceplate is pretty sweet. How much for that as well?

Has your brother sold 100 of these already?? That's awesome.

trieullionaire 03-25-2008 08:16 AM

Chills,

I talked to him last night regarding the kit & what he decided to do was (1) package an entire kit and (2) package a kit with just the fascia or faceplate, custom support bracket & the heat shield for those who have already done the install, but will sell any part(s) that people need. He's still working on the pricing cause the need for kit is relatively low so he can't buy in bulk yet to get a good price. In addition, his dilemma is that the kit has to be reasonable price to move as well. But the guy is an animal, I can't he got rid of most the parts in a matter of a couple of weeks. He's been working with Porsche Clubs & custom shops that is in 200 miles radius from our place. He said he'll have it on Ebay either tonight or tomorrow for people interested.

Thanks

When he posts it on eBay can you put a note here for the guys waiting. Can you also put some key words to find it on eBay.

On a related note, I need some help finding a wiring harness to connect to the car wiring. I'm on the fence if I'm going to do the Pioneer DVD in this post or a flip up model (I hate the idea of losing my cup holders) - sound and video is more important.

I've been searching eBay and can't find the harness for the head unit. I also need a connector for the amp - I'm planning on swapping that out as well but using the stock wiring. I installed JL Audio 6.5 inch subs in the door already and I'm using the stock wiring for those speakes.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
-Steve

If you can provide the name & model of the system you're looking into, I can go ahead and do a little digging for you on the wire harness. Personal, I would go for an in-dash unit. Less mechanical moving parts = less problems (in most cases).

Excellent. Just let me know when he's got the pricing set and I'll send him the money and my shipping address.

TriGem2k 03-25-2008 10:06 AM

Tri,

I am looking to pick up a kit as soon as they become available.

Please let us know.

I'm pretty excited!

Thanks!

angman 03-25-2008 10:41 AM

Same here. I am on the fence in regards to purchasing this kit and a D3 unit or just to go with a much simpler single DIN setup. Pricing and availability of this kit will help make that decision.

Thanks

trieullionaire 03-25-2008 08:40 PM

The kit is available on Ebay...

Here the DIY wiring for AVIC D3, I hope it will help you...

trieullionaire 03-26-2008 07:33 AM

Well got the wiring instructions with photo, you're probably wondering about the rest of the instructions. It's coming tonight, bare with me, you won't be disappointed.

Chills 03-26-2008 08:47 AM

Damn Tri, that is a good looking kit. Those instructions are very professional and clear. I could have used them last year when I did my install. ;)

So I checked the eBay auction and the price is reasonable. Do you think your brother would sell me the brackets, heat shield, and faceplate for $100 even?

trieullionaire 03-26-2008 09:36 AM

No I don't think he would sell it to you for $100, but he will sell it to you for $89 with free shipping anywhere in the continental U.S. He very low on inventory but I got the faceplate, custom bracket & heat shield set aside for you as requested from the previous post. Your move...

Trieullionaire

Chills 03-26-2008 04:46 PM

ehhhh, hmmm...... $89......I've got to think about that.....
